Is winter trying to take over fall? There was a little wintry mix going on as I wrote this on Monday evening. Mother Nature is sending mixed signals, and I am not happy about it. Bring back fall!
I forgot last week to share my experience on “Make A Difference Day,” which was Oct. 26. I was in the drive-thru at a fast food place in South Jackson and went to pay. The lady working the drive-thru said, “You don’t owe anything; the person ahead of you paid for you and the car behind you.” I quickly honked my horn and waved to the van in front of me. The van was from Chester County, so maybe they will read this and know their kindness made a difference in my day.
I attended the 32nd annual Veterans Day service at Mount Gilead Baptist Church on Sunday. Many veterans were in attendance. Cpl. Brandon Burns USMC was the speaker, and he gave a powerful testimony about his service in Iraq. It was a wonderful service and very touching. I believe the oldest veteran in attendance was Mancel Kirk of Finger. Mancel is 95 years young, and he can still fit in his army jacket. He proved it by wearing his uniform to the service. How awesome is that! Everyone was invited to stay and share a buffet meal provided by the church. The ladies of the church once again prepared a wonderful feast.
Also, I attended the Veterans Day Service at City Hall on Monday. It was very nice. Veterans in attendance were saluted and honored. Afterwards, a luncheon was served at FHU for Veterans and their families. I hope all veterans and active military know their service is greatly appreciated. May God bless all of them.
The Phillip School Reunion was held at the HCC on Saturday. Although I did not go to school there, I have family and friends that did, so I went to catch up with them. A good crowd attended the school reunion. Mildred Lott, age 95 years young, attended with her niece Edith Lott Sills. Mrs. Mildred shared a little about her time at Phillips School. She started in the primer at Phillips school and graduated from the eighth grade there and then continued onto high school. She was married to the love of her life, Jack Lott, for 76 years. Jack passed away at the age of 98. This woman is amazing and so much fun. I plan on visiting with her soon. Bingo was played, and there was a lot of talk about the “good ole days.”
My son Greg has gone back to Illinois. We had a good visit, and even though he did quite a bit of chores for me, we still had time to get out and about as well as do some visiting with relatives. I miss him.
