Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Last Saturday night was a stormy night with severe thunderstorm warnings. My neighbor Melissa called me at 12:15 a.m. to let me know of possible bad weather and wanted to know if I wanted to come to their house, but I stayed put and slept with my weather radio on. How kind of them to think of me.
The monthly meeting at the Hickory Corner Community Center was cancelled last week on short notice in anticipation of severe weather. I apologize if anyone showed up. Hopefully we will be able to have a meeting in April.
It was great to have company last week as my niece, Dianne Connor, stopped by for a visit, which just made my day. Dianne retired earlier this month from the Kirkland Cancer Center and is already enjoying the freedom and the good life that retirement brings. I know she will be happy to spend more time with her family, especially her sweet granddaughter, Savanna. Now that she has retired, I look forward to seeing her more often too.
I finally finished the book Four Winds set during the Great Depression by Kristen Hannah. I recommend reading this book. It sure helps you realize what people went through during the Dust Bowl and what it took for many to survive the Great Depression. Next up, I am hoping to read The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah set during World War II. What are you reading?
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Jim Ruth, W.T. Roland, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Please continue to pray for those who are dealing with COVID and other sicknesses.
If you would like to add or remove a name to our prayer list, please call me.
Special thanks to the people on the frontline of the pandemic, especially healthcare workers and first responders. We can still do our part by continuing to wear our masks when necessary and pray that this will soon be behind us.
If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
As always, I need your help in writing this column. Please call me at 989-3315 with any news or tidbits you would like to share. I will be happy to hear from you.
Have a happy and blessed Easter.
