Greetings from Hickory Corner!
The weather was not cooperating this year on Mother’s Day and Decoration Day at Cave Springs. Plans changed for many. Thankfully, it was nice Saturday for everyone to get their flowers on the graves of their loved ones. Here is hoping for a bright sunny day for next year.
I hope all mothers enjoyed their day Sunday. My daughter Cindy is here this week, and we had a good day. We were able to enjoy some time with relatives in the afternoon out at Terry’s place (Poppy and Mommy’s old homestead): Barbara and Glen Smith, Donna McAllister and Ed Hodgson, Valerie, Cole and Emma Breault, Pam Clayton and Amy Lofton. There was a lot of talking and laughter going on in the house, just like old times.
Later the fun ended when lightning struck a tree and a piece of tree bark about eight inches long shot through the kitchen window like a bullet. It went through the screen and glass window and ended up on the other side of the kitchen. Pieces of glass were all over. Barbara, Glen and the kids were the only ones there at the time, and I think it scared all of them. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
JoAnn Clayton enjoyed her Mother’s Day with her children, Mike, Patricia, Pam, Jeff, Stacey and Kim. She said that her sons, Mike, Jeff and Stacey, and sons-in-law, Jason and Randall, provided the food. Isn’t that sweet that they gave all the mothers a break from cooking.
My niece Donna Patterson McAllister is here visiting from Illinois. She and Ed are staying in a cabin at Chickasaw. Cindy and I had a nice visit with them there and got to see the newly remodeled cabin which was very nice. We are lucky to have a state park close by with so much to do.
Recently, I had a surprise visit from Phillip and Judy Cranford who brought me a delicious fried peach pie and a jar of homemade pickles. Thanks, Phillip and Judy, for thinking of me and stopping by for a visit.
Several weeks ago, I mentioned the Cave Springs Garbage Dump and gave a shout out to the guys working there. I forgot to mention Tommy Shears that works there. Here is a shout out to you, Tommy.
