Greetings from Hickory Corner!
We are having some beautiful fall like weather, and what a relief it is after the long hot summer. It is great weather to get out and walk, and that is what I have been doing. Ruger (my lab) walks with me. Recently, we walked down the lane, and I looked back and here comes my cat, Hobo, following us. Of course, Ruger loves both cats, but he was surprised to see Hobo, so when he ran back to see him, Hobo ran and climbed up a tree. That got Ruger excited, and he started barking, which scared Hobo even more, and then he would not come down from the tree. Ruger and I walked on back home, and when I started back to get Hobo, here he comes down the road trotting just as happy as he could be. I could not ask for better walking partners. I hope you all get out and walk if you are able.
The news was filled once again with the tragedy of the shooting that took place last week at the Kroger store in Collierville. Many were injured with the gunman taking his own life. What a sad day when you can not go to the grocery store without fearing for your life. Ellna Patterson Roland said that her son, Tony, was 10 minutes away from being in the store that day. You never know what your day will bring.
Anyone else enjoy watching baseball? I am an Atlanta Braves fan and enjoy watching the games on television. The baseball playoffs start next week, and I am hoping to see my Braves in the playoffs. Right now it looks like it may happen.
Tidbit: Speaking of baseball, I always thought the Baby Ruth candy bar was named after the great baseball player Babe Ruth. I sure was surprised to find out that it was supposedly named after President Grover Cleveland’s, daughter Ruth! Many believe that it was indeed named after the baseball slugger, but you will have to read about it and decide for yourself. Babe Ruth was a hero to millions of people. He established the Babe Ruth Foundation for underprivileged children. For 12 years he led the American league in home runs. In his lifetime he hit 714 home runs (history.com).
