Greetings from Hickory Corner!
I am going to enjoy this week with a visit from my daughter Cindy from Illinois. She called me Sunday night and said she was bringing me lunch Monday, and sure enough, she did!
Bonice Martin recently had a visit from her two great-grandsons from Spencer, Ind. I know she enjoyed their visit.
Linda Byrd reports Mr. Walter Plant of Corrigan, Texas, will be in concert at Montezuma Church at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16. Also, there will be a tribute to loved ones in the cemetery. Everyone is welcome to attend.
I enjoyed a phone call from Lonnie Morton who lives in Memphis. He and Shirley are doing fine. He reminisced about he and his family growing up around Hickory Corner. He requested prayer for his older brother Frank Morton of Houston, Texas, who is in the hospital. Lonnie has a sister, Ilene, who lives in California and a half sister, Helen, who lives near Silerton. Thanks, Lonnie, for the phone call.
Last week was a good week. JoAnn Clayton and I visited her sister Peggy Lard, and we took her lunch. We enjoyed our visit. I also took lunch to Erma Lee Morris and Bonice Martin. I made pumpkin apple muffins for the first time and they were so good! A good fall treat!
National Make A Difference Day is Saturday, Oct. 23. This day is set aside to urge people to do something to make their community a better place. Let us make Hickory Corner an even better place. Folks, put your thoughts on someone else in your community. It does not have to be a big thing; even something small will brighten someone’s day. It could be a phone call to someone who you have not talked to for a while or letting someone go ahead of you in the checkout lane! Remember that it does not have to be on Oct. 23, as I encourage you to do something to make a difference between now and then and to then continue to make a difference. Please call me and let me know how you participated in Make A Difference Day, whether you were a giver or receiver. Let us flood this column at the end of the month with all the ways you brought kindness into someone else’s life. “Never underestimate the difference you can make in the lives of others. Step forward, reach out and help. This week reach to someone that might need a lift.” – Pablo
I recently was blessed to receive meals from JoAnn Clayton’s children, Mike, Kim and Pam. I sure do appreciate how good JoAnn’s family is to me. They sure do make a difference in my life.
Our community extends sympathy to the families of Roger Krause, Jerry Cook and Doug Burkhead. Also sympathy to Lilly Faye Maness Pipkins of Jackson on the loss of her husband, Bill Pipkins. Lilly grew up in the Hickory Corner Community. Sympathy to all others who have recently lost loved ones.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Please continue to pray for all those who are dealing with sickness. Prayers for those who have recently lost loved ones. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
Folks, this is your column. Please call me at 989-3315 with tidbits, birthdays anniversaries, vacations or anything you would like to share with us. I really need to hear from our community.
Make it a great week and make a difference!
