Greetings from Hickory Corner!
I suppose Santa Claus is very busy making a list and checking it twice, and Mrs. Santa is making sure his suit is pressed. The elves must be running in circles getting all the gifts together and making sure that Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and, of course, Rudolph are all in good health and are able to travel. It will not be long before it is time to set out the cookies and milk for Santa Claus.
If you would like some Christmas cheer, then drive by Kenneth and Teresa Burkhead’s home in Hickory Corner. They have spent hours decorating their home and yard for the holiday. It is a sight to see. Pretty much puts you in the Christmas spirit. Pack up the kids and head on out. Drive by and honk your horn to let them know you appreciate their hard work and festive display.
My son, Greg, and I drove through Chickasaw State Park on Saturday evening to look at the holiday lights and decorations. It was a very nice display with lots of lights with many different Christmas characters. I spotted Charlie Brown! Hopefully, many of you made it out there.
Greg is visiting, and we are having a good time. His visit started with raking leaves and gutter cleaning. We have done some shopping, eating out and visiting. We celebrated my birthday on Saturday, including having lunch at the Chow Wagon, visiting his Aunt Ellna Roland and later driving to see the lights at Chickasaw.
Nancy Patterson reports that everyone had a good time at the HCC Center’s Christmas party. Lonnie Morton also called me and said he and Shirley enjoyed the gathering as well.
Greg and I stayed up late watching the weather Saturday night. Earlier, I went out to the storm house out at Terry’s place to make sure it was ready if we needed to head that way. Ready means no sighting of a snake or other critters. I remember when I was a child about 10 years old, and my dad took us to the storm house. He hung the lantern on the hook, and after the storm passed and we got ready to leave, a little snake was laying on the floor. I screamed, and Daddy thought lightening hit me. He grabbed me and pulled me out the door away from the snake. I believe that is why I am so afraid of snakes today. If I see one, I start jumping up and down and screaming.
Fortunately, we did not have to take shelter; however, it is devastating to see the destruction of the storms that took place across the states, particularly in Mayfield, Ky. It looks like that town was just wiped out. So many deaths and so many homes were completely destroyed. Pray for all those who lost loved ones and pray for all those who are affected by the storm and those who are part of the rescue effort. What a tragedy.
