Greetings from Hickory Corner!
As I write this on Monday, it is a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine and a high in the 50s. It is supposed to be nice weather for the rest of the week. Ruger and I have been taking our walks as long as the weather is good.

Sometimes it is the little things that can make a big difference in someone’s life. Thursday, Feb. 17 is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. I hope all of you will take part in this day by doing something kind for someone. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in line at the grocery store, paying for someone behind you in the drive-thru line, taking some sweets to a friend, giving someone a compliment or just smiling at a stranger. Just be nice to others and spread some kindness. I promise that the receiver will be touched and the giver will feel just as good. Also, let us spread kindness every day of the year. Please call me and let me know if you have recently been a recipient or a giver of a random act of kindness. Let us make our community a better place.
Today was Valentine’s Day, a day to celebrate romance, love and friendship with chocolates and flowers. I love chocolate covered strawberries so I made a few of them as a treat for myself.
Remember back when grade school children exchanged Valentine cards? You were so excited and happy if you got a sweet card from someone you liked. If it did not happen you were so disappointed. I wonder if kids still have Valentine exchanges at school and get to make their own Valentine boxes. I recently was cleaning out closets and found a few of my daughter Cindy’s Valentines she received in grade school and gave them back to her. They are probably close to 55 years old. She said they brought back some good memories of long, long ago.
JoAnn Clayton’s daughter, Kim Hearn, surprised me with a Valentine meal that included a delicious chocolate cupcake. Thank you, Kim, for thinking of me and brightening my day. Many blessings to you. Consider this your Random Act of Kindness!
Last week, Ellna Patterson Roland celebrated her birthday for several days! On Wednesday she spent her birthday with her niece Janice Schultz. I took lunch to her on Thursday, and Janice and Johnie Schultz joined us. We enjoyed being together and all had a good visit. On Friday, Ellna celebrated again with her sisters Ann Morris and Barbara and Glen Smith. They treated Ellna to lunch out. Sounds like it was a good birthday for her!
