Our community expresses sympathy to the families of Nancy Dianne Hayley Gooch (1-8-48 to 8-15-20) and Merry Joyce Jones Cunningham (6-1-41 to 8-17-20). There have been 143 obits as of last week’s list.
Prayers continue for Kristen Daniel. We are glad Willis and Jean Hudson are home. Thinking of Karen Malone, Jim Ruth, Terry and Doris Ross and the Waymon Morris Family. Geralene Thompson’s Mississippi nursing home is still in lockdown with patients being served all meals in their room. Jim Ruth (Covington) and Murdell Barker’s (Jackson) situations are the same. This is extremely hard on the elderly. Call or send them cards when you can.
I saw people in Henderson NOT wearing a mask while entering a store. This is how the virus continues.
I am going to call those who sent me Happy Birthday cards or gifts. Turning 69 wasn’t too bad after all.
Happy 13th Birthday to Braxton Ellis. Don’t we remember becoming a “teenager”? For some odd reason, we felt more grown up but were only going into memorable growing up years. Also, Happy 17th Birthday to Braelyn Ellis. The siblings almost shared the same birthday. When Braelyn was born, Jeremy and I talked about how we wished Braelyn had been born on our Aug. 9 birthdays. We were proud she had doubled us. That positive thinking made Daddy smile. Happy Birthday to Debra Rush Connor on Aug. 16, the same day Elvis died in 1977. I attended his visitation. We tenderly remember Renee Goff (8-16-18). She is the daughter of community writer Carolyn Goff.
The Fruit and Veggie stand next to the post office is still open if you desire foods to eat or freeze.

Tidbit: An elephant trunk has no bones only 40,000 muscles with eight main muscles on the sides. Humans have over 650 skeletal muscles in their entire body. An elephant’s trunk can lift 70,000 pounds and can suck up 10 gallons of water a minute and holds a little over two gallons. It can drink 50 gallons of water. Its trunk is very sensitive. It can pick up a peach and feed itself, but spits out the seed. It uses its trunk to offer comfort to his family or new friends and uses it to offer a personal self-soothie. One zoo was flooded. The elephant, Sissy, was trapped under water for 24 hours with only the tip of her trunk above water saving her life. Sissy feared water for fun or bathing, but thanks to a patient sanctuary team of caregivers in Hohenwald, Sissy now plays in the water. It had been a traumatic time, but love and patience solved the issue. Elephants are very social.
