Monday is Memorial Day. Due to the COVID-19, there was no public meeting last year at City Hall. Memorial Day commemorates all Americans who died in military service for the United States of America. Country singer, Lee Greenwood says, “And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.”

Ava Cox, Chester County High School 2021 Salutatorian, is not from Jacks Creek, but her great aunt, Mary Nell Christopher (John) Tignor, lived here for years until their deaths in 2005. Mary’s sister, Irene (H.C.) Christopher would be great-grandparent of Ava. Ava’s granddad, Wade Cox, married Lenora Christopher, daughter of Irene (H.C.) Christopher. (Two tidbits) – Don and I live in Ava’s great-great-grandparents’ home; and Ava’s great -grandparents lived in the area where Wendy’s is located.
Regina Brooks is putting away perms, bleach and hair colors. Only by appointment will she do “wet cuts.” Teresa Crouse will work Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at Country Curls. Friday is Regina’s last official day, so bring tissues or a flower from your garden.
Happy eighth wedding anniversary to Charles and Ruby Malone on May 26. Lights were dim, and soft music was playing. Charles’ knock-out roses are gorgeous just like his bride!
Happy Birthday to Joann Jones, former Chester County Junior High School Principal on May 26. Happy first meowy birthday to Biddie Webb. Ruth and Marie made a tuna-egg-cheese cupcake for him and guest, Pere’ (Perry). Sure hope Charles Webb knows the difference between miniature and regular size casseroles!
Thanks for donations. Unity Decoration Day was beautiful with red and yellow flowers. Driving from Alabama and Texas, Larry and Doris Cochran and Phyllis Cochran Powell stayed at Still Waters. Regina Brooks cooked stew they were craving. The carrot cake would be stolen by Bugs Bunny if he got a sniff of it! Don and I enjoyed American Idol. We chose humble Willie as the winner, but Chayce won. He has talent for sure! We will see Willie’s name in bright lights someday. Don said talent scouts were ready to sign him and the other awesome five singers. It reminds me of the happy times at Opry Land hearing those great singers. Now it is another mall. What a shame.
My poodle Dusty Rose left 10 years on May 21. I was not ready to stop making memories with Dusty and had no desire to write JC News. Willis and Jean Hudson never stopped caring about my feelings. Now they are gone – no more memories there!
