“When we lose someone we love – we must learn, NOT to live without them, but to live with the LOVE they left behind.” – unknown
Our community expresses sympathy to the families of Donald Edward Hooper (7-7-48 to 3-14-22) – Silerton Hickory Grove; Roger Craig Middleton (1-7-58 to 3-16-22) – Shiloh; and Patsy Kay Young Ross (2-15-40 to 3-16-22) a kind lady with a pleasant smile – Mifflin.
Mark your calendar – donate to the Communities Yard Sale (de-clutter for dogs) to help LOVING PAWS RESCUE. We need all communities participating. Call Sharon Thomas (731-234-3434) or Janeane Moore 608-2924. Your community writer can guide you. The door to J&J Warehouse will be opened for you at any reasonable hour. Perhaps one or two community truckloads will haul donated items. Friends can come to the building across from Bells Drive-In to represent your community.
The Community Yard Sale will be in J&J Warehouse on April 1-2. Hot dogs and hamburgers on Saturday offered as the sale continues. Make it fun to “declutter for the dogs.” Take time to act like a dog — dig up those hidden items you no longer use. Someone will consider your stuff their treasure!
Read “What’s Happening” column in the Independent. Events will happen most of the year as each group organizes. Who, what, when and where questions will be posted on Facebook, bulletin boards or in the paper. A large effort is being made. Please participate in the way that you can.
I hope ALL readers and ALL community writers realize the importance of supporting LOVING PAWS RESCUE. I got involved when a cousin called about a Facebook message. The message was a cry for help!!! Finding date, time and location guided Don and me to support LOVING PAWS, Carol Preuss and those who cared enough to organize a meeting. Shame on me for not thinking of a fundraiser 16 years ago when I was younger and stronger. Carol needed support all along, didn’t she?
Well, Janeane Moore and Sharon Cooper Thomas obviously were yelping to help this rescue. It encouraged Don and me to listen carefully and desire to participate in helping raise money for this rescue. We want to support each person at the meeting who are offering their service and time to donate to the rescue. They only have to call at 989-7485.
Loving Paws Rescue operates without much help. Carol’s former workers are involved elsewhere, so one woman (Carol) is this dog rescue’s only chance. Her husband takes care of the smaller dogs in the basement, but Carol does the rest. She is near my age and recently had a December wreck that totaled her car. A new expense added to her tired shoulders. Her skin wounds still exist, but so does her responsibility to the rescue. Feeling no pain? Yes, she does! She is strong, but she needs help now more than ever. Can you open your heart for her and the numerous dogs? All they want is a loving fur-ever home. Will you help?
Humble tidbit: With lots of time I learned to live without Dusty Rose (my beloved poodle). The quote above helped me. I treasure the love Dusty left behind. Our Dusty Haven is near and dear; it was a place for me to start healing. I love deeply, and I hurt deeply. Sadly, I am no longer physically able to keep Dusty Haven a flower garden, but it is a Haven of love.
Why is it a Haven of Love? We rescued a kitten near Dusty’s grave. The Dusty Haven saved the kitten from a killer! A tom cat was killing all the month-old kittens born not far from us. Near Dusty’s grave I saw something move. It was a scared kitten. We took him into the house, gave him kitten milk formula and named him “Haven.” Later he was buried near Dusty. I like “Dusty” and “Haven” side-by-side. Adding tender memories is Abby Brooks. It is her haven, too. Her part is “Abby’s Place.” If desired, honk three times when you pass for Dusty, Haven and Abby.
Carol’s address – 2035 Brown Cemetery Road, Luray 38352. Call 731-501-6836 to offer your service or send a check. PayPal and Go Fund Me has been set up on Facebook, but you will have to seek help from someone smarter than me! I could ask Sammie Davis (my rescue poodle) for guidance; he is a smart furry family member.Sammie is humble like Dusty was…another blessing.
