“Absence and death are the same. Only that in death there is no suffering.” — Theodore Roosevelt
Our community expresses sympathy to four families — Glenda Sue Cobb C. Nobles (8-20-46 to 11-4-22), mother of Chip Campbell, Chris Campbell, Teressa Plunk and Jason Nobles; Joy Frances Massengill Grisham (11-5-49 to 11-2-22), daughter of David and Mary who had 12 children – two surviving sisters. Joy graduated with my brother, Larry Nobles in the Class of 1967 at Chester County High School. This class had a 55th reunion on Sept. 10. Joy attended this happy reunion but sadly did not get to see the group picture, but it will be a treasure for her son and grandchildren – burial at Sweetlips; Michael Darren Wooley (5-20-65 to 11-1-22) son of Charles and Doris from Pinson. Charles died Sept. 10, 2022. Prayer is requested for dear Doris who has lost husband and son in two months – Big Springs Cemetery; and Weronkia Grandelick Tacker (2-2-48 to 10-31-22) married her devoted husband, Bobby October 1967. He was an excellent, loving and patient caregiver – Memory Gardens.
At Jack O’Neal’s Friday funeral much love and respect filled the church; kind speakers had a gift to produce laugher and yet tears; song leader (Nita) with a voice trying to equal Jack’s notes from another time; a generous autumn meal and busy friends prepared things to perfection; and two special church signs spoke volumes by bringing tears, peace and quietness. One side of the sign said — Jack O’Neal (1939-2022). We were blessed to be a part of his dash (83 years of a good life). The other side — Jack, go rest high on that mountain. We love you. WOW! What a send-off toward heaven!
Don and I parked across the street and took pictures of the church, the church sign and various pictures of family and friends for Tera’s photo album. It is hard during emotional times to remember faces, so perhaps pictures will show the love for her beloved Jack. The well-matched couple showed as Jack was proud to carry Tera’s arm wrapped around his. The two precious caregivers, Jane McCaig and Odessa Newbern, were duplicating that support for Tera.
I will miss calls to the O’Neal home, asking for names, history tidbits, phone number or contacts. They were so dependable. Our O’Neal Reunion has changed. Our glue that held us together is missing. He and Robert Patrick were our leaders. Andrea and John McCadams offered their river home for our reunions, but now they have health issues. I can never eat at a Mexican buffet without thinking of Jack and Robert. Call me (989-7485) for Lee Ann and Tera’s addresses. Visit Terra and as Jack said, “Don’t stop praying for her.” She is alone. Lee Ann has gone back to Texas. Enville is a close community with fine people and good cooks. Judy Pugh has the secret to making blue ribbon cookies. Blessings to those who showed support.
Prayer has been requested for Brad Brower; Randy Climer; Tera O’Neal; Linda Liles Bruntz; Judy Jones Hample; Harold James; Dale Goff; Janise McCall; Carol Preuss; Tommy Hemby; Doris Skinner Wooley, Cousin Alice and Buddy Stovall. Johnny Hayes is back at healthcare; Paul Schilling is better; Jean Tignor fell a week before her birthday – no paddling for her; Andy Maness is better, and cousin Willadean Maness Thrasher is in rehab.
Happy birthday to Jean Tignor on Nov. 7. She is the same today as she was yesterday, and she will be the same tomorrow – smiling and laughing. She does not look or act age 88 (twinkie numbers will get her pizza as a gift from us). We love Jean. She keeps us in her prayer each night. Isn’t that comforting to hear? She loves “salet.” If you are able, pick her a mess for her birthday. Our other friend, Charlotte Joyner turns another year wiser on Nov. 12; she likes “salet and Snickers.” Betty Parrish Haggard had a delightful 91st birthday on Oct. 26. Her cousins, Kathy Pounds and Pat Jones, received generous belated birthday gifts from Cousin Betty. We had birthday cupcakes while Betty blew out a candle having made a wish. Our Jacks Creek area friend Rue Jones was born on Nov. 15, 1955; she is celebrating her 67th birthday in heaven. Also, we lovingly remember Warren Jones who died Nov. 11, 2018.
Cold weather is coming. Be kind to pets, little innocent children and our senior treasures. Loving Paws Rescue could greatly benefit from food.
Nov. 11 is Veterans Day. Three tidbits – (1) Five top military powers in the world — U.S.A.; Russia; China; India and Japan, but God has the MOST power; (2) largest active-duty military – China (2.3 billion), India (1.45 million) and U.S.A. (1.39 million), but God single-hand rules; and (3) oldest WWII veteran and oldest man in the U.S.A was Richard Overton (5-11-1906 to 12-27-2018). Is that 112 years?
Hope you took the privilege to vote Tuesday. We must do our part to help our dear country. Those people in Washington need us more than we need them. We need to remember our constitution is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Where are our spines and morals? God is watching us, and He is in control. Run from negative and immoral, but most important do right. God only wrote Ten Commandments. The world population is 7.98 billion. God has the whole world in His hands. How do you like that tune?
According to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs — 300,000 out of 16 million veterans are still living, but 370 WWII Veterans die each day. Jacks Creek lost WWII Veteran, Melbern Jones (4-6-25/8-24-22, age 97). Statistics show the youngest veterans are in their 90s while the oldest are over 100 years old. They are our “National Treasures.” Perhaps the Christmas parade can drive our vets through the parade in warm limousines as private first class veterans!
“We’ll say bye for now, and we love you.” – WWII veteran, Harry Brown (12-26-26/8-20-17), age 91 years and 8 months.
