“The ocean brought me peace, the wind gave me energy, the sun warmed my spirit, the flowers showed me life, but you made me feel love.” – Susan Schutz
Sympathy from our community is expressed to families of Denny Clayton (3-24-72 to 2-1-23) beloved husband of Maria Holmes; Barbara Hodges (11-25-36 to 2-2-23) my grandmother’s neighbor located directly behind her home. Paul and Barbara were so nice. Paul survived Vietnam War with a scary job of helicopter rescuing our soldiers on the ground. He went in firing and left firing at the enemy. Barbara was so blessed to have him come home; “Sonny” Russell (1-20-44 to 2-3-23); Patricia Howell (4-15-53 to 2-3-23); and Robert Mattingly (6-16-39 to 2-3-23).
Glen Miller, age 78 (2-2-23), was daddy to Travis, Robert and Jamie Miller. Jamie married Connie Plunk from Jacks Creek. They live on Swafford Lane. Burial was in Hardeman County in Cearly Cemetery. Glen’s obit and picture is on George Smith and Sons in South Jackson. From the eyebrow down I see an image of Elvis. Jamie favors his daddy. Grandsons Trevor and Ty Miller from Jacks Creek and Faron and Madison were pall bearers. Also, while on the George Smith obit line, I recognized a lady I knew from shopping at FHA rummage sale. Respect to Phyllis Meacham Culver (11-13-34 to 12-26-22). Since I was not called about her death in her home in Henderson, and there was no Chester County Independent obit – her name was not listed on the “Wings of a Dove.” She was a nice lady. She worked as a nurse.
Prayers requested for Jamie Miller (loss of Daddy); Sherrill and Sheila Ryals; Carol Preuss (Loving Paws); Jeanette Ruth feels better since last April’s doctor visit; Charles Malone will always wear Prince Charles’s crown; Ricky Clayton; Brad and Peggy Brower; Steve Hite lost his mother; Mrs. Bob Moore; and Eddie and Faye Plunket – he is in the hospital; she’s home recovering.
Lovingly remember families of Donnie Hannah (1-18-44/2-21) – Brenda Thompson Hannah is his widow; Eloise Talley Murley (10-15-35/2-13-21) – Mrs. Ricky Murley is her grieving daughter; Lee Nell King (10-26-32/2-12-20) – her beloved daughter is Mrs. Tommy Connor and son is Jerry King.
Happy 54th anniversary Harold and Joyce Mooney Wade (2-24); Teddy and Ann Ballard Hollin (2-27); and tenderly remember Lance and Ann Wallace Bailey on (2-22) what would have been another sweet year together, but memories help sustain since 1958.
Happy birthday and blow all those candles out so the fire department will not appear – Joel McCall (2-4); Jimmy Grissom (2-8); Judy Ruth (2-8); Patsy Denton (2-12); Andy Maness (2-12); Johnny Hayes (2-13); Maness twins, Willadean Thrasher and Maxine Whittaker (2-23); and Mary Curtis (2-23).
Delores Perkins had a surprise birthday party last Saturday at The Wall. Guests were Mary Curtis, Linda Carter, Regina and Mike Brooks, Phil Foster, Phyllis Knolton, and Pat and Don Jones. I received a thank you note that made me laugh. I had made a coconut cake but did not carry it inside due to not remembering to carry paper plates. I took the cake back home and during the week we ate it all (minus two frozen slices). Delores said she bet it was good like all the other foods I had baked. She asked me where the cake was. I told her it was in my belly, but I did freeze two slices. We laughed hard over that “hoggish” comment. Jimmy Jones always told me he’d hate to be a banana around me. Why? Cause I’d put him into a “nanner pudding.” I miss him.
Heavenly birthdays are not forgotten. My school friends turn 72 in heaven – Linda Lott Boothe (2-6); Billy Dickson (2-16-1951); and Bobby Pickett (2-28-1951). Traci, Vickie and Sheryl, I miss your loved one, too.
Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday. Jim Ruth sent my first valentine card in 2018, so that pleased me. I miss his phone calls, and I miss his great mind. Momma baked me a red velvet cake on my favorite holiday. Imogene Valentine Fitts was born on Valentine’s Day! I miss her. Newsflash – I think I found my Valentine’s Day gift. If you see me, look for a red heart-shaped purse. Don presented me with a new soup pot that holds six quarts. Does that mean we are having veggie soup on Feb.14 – maybe with candles burning that Don and Carlette Robinson sent by mail. I hope Don gets a heart-shape light burning in the window. It would encourage me to start gathering fresh veggies!
“The sea has its pearls, the heaven its stars, but my heart, my heart has its love. “ – Heinrich Heine (Dabo Buck loves this quote)
Happy Valentine’s Day to those on earth and in heaven. Heavenly loved ones possess the BEST love, so count blessings and let memories flood your heart with happy tears. God bless you without your love one.“ Life is so short and alone hours are so long. We ought to be together, you and I.” – Henry Alford.
3 Tidbits: (1) Battle of Iwo Jimo (2-19-1945) our soldiers paid a high price to win the entire island – 60,000 Americans and 20,000 Japanese fought hard (6,821 Americans killed and 20,000 injured), while 18,844 Japanese killed with 216 captured. (2) World’s oldest dog was born 5-11-1992. Bobi is 30 years, 277 days as of Feb. 9 and (3) A Minnesota cow gave birth to FOUR calves – 2 males and 2 females. Mother Cow was so happy the human family helped by bottle feeding the. Don’t you know that was a MOO-VING experience? When the farmer saw his wife holding up a finger for each calf born – he suddenly shouted HOLY COW.
QUESTION – What do you usually think about on your drive home from work???
