Hello to all from this little corner of the world. The sky was a beautiful blue with white-gray clouds and an occasional slight breeze blowing on Sunday. The temperature was 34 degrees, and with wind chill it feels like 27. The upcoming week prediction is for highs in the 60s and 70s and lows in the mid to upper 40s. I imagine most are really looking for prettier weather. I know we are. I have written before why I include weather. I know it affects us all, and back in our younger years when raising children, James worked for a plant that closed, and he went into construction, which was something else he knew. He could always get a job up until the recession we had. Anyway, I knew what it was like to live by the weather channel, and I am sure many readers do, too. There are farmers, commercial and residential construction, road repairs and landscapers just to name a few who work according to the weather. I just thought I would drop this information back into this column for those who have not seen my reasoning for this. Also, it helps to have something to add as I usually have no input from anyone from the community. Wishful thinking I guess.
We enjoyed our community club meeting last Friday night. We had a good crowd, plenty of good food and played cards. Please feel free to join us any third Friday of the month. We eat at 6 p.m. You are always welcome.
Thankful Melvin Butler is home. Pray for continued recovery.
Rachel Ellington, Marla and Kevin Davidson and Brooklyn and Kirk Walls attended a “line dance” at UT Martin last week. This is a competition between sororities and fraternities. Each group has its own time. The “line dance” consists of dancing around the line on a basketball court. Kendyl Davidson participated in this event with her sorority.
Please join me in welcoming Jennifer Gately and girls to the Mifflin community.
Marla and Kendyl Davidson and Rachel Ellington traveled to Nashville last Monday to celebrate Sarah Utley’s 21st birthday. She is Rachel’s granddaughter and attends Belmont University.
Prayers requested for our Tennessee Highway Patrol that are now being sent to do police patrol in Memphis. I did hear on the news that Gov. Bill Lee is requesting 150 extra highway patrol in the next budget meeting. Praying it will be approved and they can at least split it three ways for each region of Tennessee.
Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department had a very good turnout for their fundraiser and thanks everyone who came out or helped in any way.
I enjoyed Saturday night with friends and relatives at Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons concert. There was a great crowd there. As I have said before, we are very fortunate to have entertainment brought to our small town to Williams Auditorium. Thanks so much to Shane Connor and all that help in any way, and also thanks for the handrail at the steps leading up to the auditorium. Follow Williams Auditorium.com for upcoming entertainment.
Happy birthday to John Webb, 3-18; Jeanette Butler and Carter Seaton, 3-21; Darrell Williams, 3-22; and Marla Kirk, 3-24.
Happy anniversary to Ann and Jeff Weir, Marla and Chris Kirk and Carla and Rick Prater, 3-24.
Please continue to remember these in prayer: Sheila Berry, Joe Bingham, Marie Bishop, Weston Bishop, Robert Brewer, Shannon Burton, Jeanette Butler, Melvin Butler, Frances Carroll, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Dobber Dyer, James Ellis, Nathan Frost, Jennifer Gately, Shorty Harris, Johnny Hays, Shirley Kendrick, Martha Mainord, Adisyn Matthews, Janeane Moore, Deana Morris, Debbie Morris, Nancy Morris, Jim Newsom, Cissy Nichols, LaVelle Page, Julia Parchman, Beth Plunk, Pam Priddy, Jesse Pugh, Tenisha Pursell, Karon Reinmann, Logan Rencher, Todd Rencher, Jake Richardson, Dwain Seaton, Jr., Nona Seaton, Bro. “LIFE’S HIGHEST hurdles will continually test your strength. Life’s deepest sorrows will continually challenge your faith. You can allow them to sink you, or you can allow them to change you. Experiences will be your teacher, both good and bad. The lessons within them are to build inner grit and allow your faith to expand greater than any obstacle you face. Stay open to soul growth, lean into the mess, and trust that you are strong enough to handle the journey.” -Power of Wordz/ig
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
