Hello to all! The sun was shining, and the skies were blue on Sunday. There was also an occasional slight breeze blowing. I hope everyone had a good week and weathered the storms well. I saw a few limbs down around our area, and I am sure others had more significant damage. We certainly have had some rain and wind. This week, it is supposed to be mostly sunny and moderate in temperatures. I saw some beautiful tomato plants at Lowes South Jackson and lovely Hibiscus at Home Depot. My sister gave me some daisies to replant from some of her abundance. I am looking forward to seeing them grow. We are beginning to see more birds and blooming greenery. We have also seen a few wasps, and James saw a long, black snake going into the woods as he was mowing.
Katelynn Pratt and Jordan Phelps welcomed a new baby girl on Easter, April 4. She weighed six pounds, nine ounces. The delivery went well, and they are home now enjoying her. Her name is Finley Rose Phelps. Lindsay Sparks and Justin Bishop will welcome one on 5-22-21. Congratulations to all these young people. I wish all your days to be happy and fulfilled.
We had a good church service this morning and good attendance today. We are having Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday nights are at 6:30 p.m. We would love for you to come and worship the Lord with us.
I spoke with Mr. Jim Ruth Sunday. It was his 83rd birthday! He was having a good day. He thinks often about his hometown and the country store his dad ran for 50 years. He said his dad had an abundance of groceries. It was 4-Way grocery store, later becoming 4-Way flower shop. I am sure he has so many memories, He graduated in 1956 from Chester County schools, two years after I was born. I enjoyed our phone visit.
I am sure the Mifflin community is looking forward to the Mifflin Store opening. As was noted in last week’s Independent, brothers Chris and Scott McCaskill plan to open it the beginning of May. The convenience store plans to have breakfast along with other food offerings at lunch. They plan for the back to have pool tables available for your enjoyment. They also plan to have the dance hall open in September, hosting dance events and renting the event area. Gas will also be sold at the store. I hope at some point the community and others wills support these brothers in their endeavors to brighten the life and offerings for the community. Mifflin is not that far from the city of Henderson. I wish them all the best and am looking forward to visiting.
Happy Birthday to Jim Ruth, 4-11; John Thomas Wells, 4-12; and Bristen Matheney, 4-13.
Please continue to remember these in prayer William Acred, Lynn Allen, Denise Armstrong, Sheila Berry, Charlie Brewer, Robert and Joyce Brewer, J.T. Butler, Jackie Chambers, Nancy McCaskill, Sarah McLemore, LaVelle Page, Pam Priddy, Donald Rowlett, Jim Ruth, Dalton Seratt, Jo Willis and Bruce Wright. Also, please pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and its leaders, those affected by COVID and first responders. There are many sick and hurting. Please say a prayer for those; even if you do not know their name, God does. Prayer is not an obligation; it is the greatest privilege we have. Pray yourself through each day.
“What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong – “I see trees of green, red roses too/I see them bloom for me and you/And I think to myself what a wonderful world/I see skies of blue/and clouds of white/The bright blessed day/the dark sacred night/And I think to myself/what a wonderful world/The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky/Are also on the faces of people going by/I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do/They’re really saying I love you/I hear babies crying, I watch them grow/They’ll learn much more than I’ll never know/And I think to myself what a wonderful world/Yes I think to myself, what a WONDERFUL world.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
