Hello to everyone! I hope it has been a good week for all. Today is Saturday, April 23. The sky is light gray with white clouds, and it is breezy outside. The temperature is 77 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to be warm again, and the forecast is for rain moving in possibly Monday night into Tuesday morning. The temperatures are supposed to be in the 70s. We are seeing some of our azaleas beginning to bloom. Our small yellow bird, not a finch, has returned. He and his mate are working steadily on a nest. She chirps two-three times, and he chirps five times.
We also have other birds visiting, including our hummers. We have mowed for the first time. We had to go slow due to large clumps of grass I suppose cows would eat. Now, we need to begin tying it all together so the summer will be more enjoyable. The trees are all green now and beautiful.
The senior class at Chester County High School enjoyed another fundraiser Friday night. They had a womanless beauty review. I know it was a lot of fun, and the guys were good sports; it was all to help Project Graduation. Our granddaughter Braelyn was one to help with makeup. Now, I am jealous! Braelyn did their makeup, and I have not even had that treat! I guess I can let it slide since I am not in the senior class, but I am a senior – ha! I saw where Kenneth Kitchen III won Mr. Henderson 2022. Congratulations!
Friendship Baptist Church will have its homecoming on Sunday, May 1. There will be a potluck meal in the fellowship hall after the morning worship service. Everyone is invited. There will be singing in the sanctuary starting around 1 p.m.
The Friendship Community Club met on Friday. We had several there; the food was great, and the games afterwards were lots of fun. For those who do not know, the center was once the “old schoolhouse.” It had two rooms, eight classes and two teachers. There was a kitchen with an extended picnic table, and they heated with coal in those days. There were also two outdoor toilets – one for boys and one for girls. The building is on the state and county historical registers. We are trying very hard to keep the building open. Some use it for reunions, showers, etc. We would love to have our attendance and interest in this center grow. We have potluck on the third Friday of each month at 6 p.m., and then we play games. We play cards but could also play other games such as dominoes or Rook, or we are open to new games. We are hoping other Chester countians will take an interest in this piece of history and memories.
Happy birthday to Lucille Scheele, 4-23; Thomas Gaugh and Aaron (Radar) Williams, 4-26; Lindsay Bishop, 4-27; Beverly Butler, 4-28; and Frances Carroll and Kim Carroll, 4-29.
Happy anniversary to Kevin and Marla Davidson, 4-27.
Please continue to remember these in prayer Randy Baker, Sheila Berry, Joe Bingham, Marie Bishop, Robert and Joyce Brewer, Beverly Butler, J.T. and Jeanette Butler, John Butler, Jackie Chambers, Johnny Hays, Maryann Lackie, Anita and Larry Lambert, LaVelle Page, Nancy Parker, Pam Priddy, Jesse Pugh, Todd Rencher, Donald Rowlett, Jake Richardson, Gina Robinson, Kristi Taylor, David Tucker, Tony Tucker and Adam Wise. Also, please pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and its leaders and first responders. There are many sick and hurting. Please say a prayer; even if you do not know their name, God does. Prayer is not an obligation; it is the greatest privilege we have. Pray yourself through each day.
“Back Home” by unknown – “If I had the power to turn back the clock/Go back to that house at the end of the block/The house that was home when I was a kid/I know that I’d love it more now than I did/If I could be back there at my mother’s knee/And hear once again all the things she told me/I’d listen as I never listened before/For she knew so well just what life had in store/And all the advice my dad used to give/His voice I’ll remember as long as I live/But it didn’t seem really important then/What I’d give just to live it all over again/And what I’d give for the chance I once had/To do so much more for my mother and dad/To give them more joy and a little less pain/A little more sunshine-and a little less rain/But the years roll on and we cannot go back/Whether we were born in a mansion or a shack/But we can start right now – in the hour that’s here/To do something more for the ones we hold dear/And since time in its flight is traveling so fast/Let’s not spend it regretting that which is past/But let’s make tomorrow a happy day/By doing (good to others) – today.”
“There’s no storm that God won’t carry you through. No bridge that God won’t help you cross. No battle that God won’t help you through. No heartache that God can’t help you let go of. He is so much bigger than anything you will ever face. Leave everything in His hands. Embrace each day confidently, knowing that He will take care of you.” – unknown
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news . People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
