One thing I love about Silerton is the sense of community. If somebody is in need, neighbors from all around stop to help. I have seen this first hand with turned tractors and mowers, missing pets or wandering livestock, and those dealing with sickness or losing loved ones. Silerton is a truly caring community and that character can be seen through the years.
I read a delightful story on Facebook in the group “Silerton Photographs from the Past” posted by Ms. Irene Fawcett about how her father Alton Fawcett and friend, Wayne Hatch, worked together to help in the construction of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Alton Fawcett supplied lumber from his farm and Wayne helped haul the lumber. The article shared that Wayne Hatch transported a load of bricks from Jackson that was so heavy he had to drive the whole distance in second gear. That was the only load of bricks after that.
As spring approaches, it is so nice to see neighbors out and about and get to catch up. I hope that everyone fared ok after the wind storm we had recently. The storm took one of our apple trees down to the roots but thankfully did not cause any damages.
Easter is approaching fast. I would love to hear what some of your holiday traditions are? What is on your menu this year? Willow is old enough to egg hunt this year, and I look forward to seeing how competitive she and her brother are this season. One thing I know for sure, I will be buying lots of chocolate as Willow shares my love for all things chocolate.
