September is a memorable month for several Silerton citizens. Winna and David Cupples celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sept. 11. The Cupples met when they were in the first grade and became sweethearts when they were 15 years old. Brother Henry married them in the Silerton Methodist Church. David Cupples also celebrated a birthday on Sept. 10. The Cupples are proud of their grandson Taylor Coffman; he left on Sept. 8 to join the Marines. Other noteworthy anniversaries this month are Willard and Linda Beshires who celebrated their 48th anniversary on Sept. 8, and Kevin and I celebrated our fifth year anniversary on Sept. 12.
Mayor Willard Beshires shares an update from the last town meeting. “The Silerton aldermen met Sunday, Aug. 30, at the city park pavilion. We discussed ways to improve our city government, the status of grants we have received and future plans for improvements in our town. These meetings will be held on a regular basis and future meeting times will be posted in this article. As always, the public is welcome to attend.”
Mary Lynn Lambert reports on an enjoyable family gathering during the Labor Day holiday. She writes, “The Labor Day Weekend was a busy time for the Lambert’s especially on Lambert Lane. On Friday night several family members met the Wade cousins at Logan’s Roadhouse for a delicious dinner. On Saturday night family met for their traditional hamburger and hotdog cookout with all the sides. On Sunday, at 1 p.m., the family met for a potluck meal. Haley Jeter organized a kickball game to replace the traditional baseball game. Attendance was down tremendously because of the virus. Family is looking forward to next year with all family members.”
