Silerton, like much of West Tennessee, stayed nestled in white for a whole week. Many of you probably cleaned out your fridges and found yourself enjoying foods in the furthest recesses of the cabinets. I know many took the opportunity to do a little early spring cleaning. The television enthusiasts caught up on all their favorite shows, and I suspect even a puzzle or two may have been worked to pass the time. The outdoor people refused to let the snow and ice keep them indoors. I noticed children playing outside and making snowmen or sledding. Some may have even seen a boat or two drifting over the snow. The snow could not keep those with four-wheelers and four-wheel drive from concocting all kinds of winter entertainments.
For those interested in local history, you may be interested in Michael Dorrough Armour’s book, Pine Top. Just go to the Facebook group Silerton-Photographs from the Past, and give Mr. Armour your email, and he will send you a copy. Pine Top, much like Silerton, was a small community with a railroad, a depot, a blacksmith shop and a couple of stores. Armour does a wonderful job bringing to life what is now just a railroad bed and several acres of trees. He also recently came out with a revised version due to learning more information about Pine Top from members of Silerton-Photographs from the Past.
