Otto and I recently visited my brother, Jordan Smith, and Otto’s uncle, Hiram Ireton, in Seattle, Wash. Kevin graciously held down the fort and took care of our animals at home. We had a wonderful visit and had the opportunity to see a lot of interesting sites. Otto really enjoyed the Museum of Flight that has over 150 different aircrafts dating from the early 1900s through present day. A highlight for me was walking through the Pike Place Market, smelling the fresh fish and admiring all the curiosities. We treated ourselves to some delicious pastries from a Russian bakery called Piroshky Piroshky. Naturally, I had to get a cup of coffee from Storyville Coffee to drink with my chocolate roll.
Gail Mayfield informed me that there will be a fire department buffet and silent auction at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 19. Persons wanting to donate auction items should arrive by 5:45 p.m.
Frankie Lambert recently visited his sister, Ann Wade, at the Reflection Memory Care in Washington, Ill. Mary Lynn shared that, “In spite of her memory problems, Frankie enjoyed being able to visit with her after a year of limited visits.”
In health and sympathy news this week, Mary Lynn asked that we remember Walter Cooper. He is currently hospitalized at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Condolences to the family of Bonnie Hooper. Bonnie was buried at Hickory Grove Cemetery where her husband, Buster, and her in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Columbus Hooper, are buried.
In birthday news Bessie Rush was honored at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joe Neal and Jean Cox. Mrs. Rush celebrated her 101st birthday on May 27. Judy Dillard, Linda Hatch and Jonna Ewing all celebrated birthdays on June 4. Willard Beshires enjoyed a birthday dinner with his wife Linda Beshires at Red Hook Seafood and Bar on June 5. Tolstoy Cox will celebrate a birthday on June 29.
