Running 100 miles is definitely a feat. Running 100 miles within 24 hours is phenomenal. But what truly rises greater than it all is when you run 100 miles within 24 hours to raise awareness for a cause that is dear to you. Randy Broadway of Bells, Tennessee did just that.
Broadway, out of the love of his heart, ran from Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame to Beale Street in Memphis for the Chester County Carl Perkins Center and to raise awareness in preventing and dealing with child abuse in West Tennessee.
“Doing things you don’t have to do for people you don’t know just melts my heart,” said Kirbi Fahs, Chester County Carl Perkins Center Director.
“I knew without a doubt, I wanted this run to go through the Carl Perkins Center. I knew without a doubt on that,” Broadway said. “Every child deserves to be in a loving home and be able to grow up in a healthy family.”
He started the run at about 10 a. m. April 10 and finished right before 10 a.m. on April 11 with a time of 23 hours, 53 minutes and 39 seconds.
“I’m thankful for my ability in what I was able to accomplish and will always be thankful. I’m blessed to be able to live the active lifestyle I have,” Broadway said.
Though he accomplished something most people never will, he just wants to remind everyone of the purpose behind it; to provide support to families in preventing and dealing with Child Abuse in West Tennessee. He wants to get everyone involved and bring awareness to child abuse, with the goal of raising $5,000.00 for the Carl Perkins Center in Henderson. As of Early Monday, the amount of money raised was just over $4,000.
Last year proved to be a challenging year for the Carl Perkins Center, with an estimated $525,000.00 loss from potential fundraising due to events being cancelled as a result of COVID-19.
“I hope people don’t get lost in my story and focus on the purpose of it,” he said.
