The Chester County Board of Education met Thursday, Oct. 19, in regular session. The meeting proceeded with a quorum present and Jeff Harris absent.
With the October meeting being held at Chester County Junior High School, the Spotlight/Celebration portion focused on seventh and eighth grade career, STEM and computer classes. Students addressed the board, sharing what they and their classmates have been learning this year at the junior high. Students spoke of aptitude testing, furthering education options, career pathways, tools for learning and for planning and websites which help them along the way.
Participating students were Ella Murley, Brooke Snyder, Lakeland Gregory and Riley Trice from Lee Pipkin’s eighth grade Careers class, Miquasha Barham and Tiquasha Barham from Chasity Harris’ seventh grade STEM classe and Daisy Talbot and Temperance Barboza from Beth Naylor’s seventh grade Computer Science class. Elam Murphy led the Pledge of Allegiance.
In appointment of subcommittee members, Chairman Shane Connor suggested the board maintain the current member assignments – Ben Cupples and Clay Rogers on Capital Projects and Connor, Brandy Cherry and Becky Hutcherson on Budget/Finance committee. All agreed and the subcommittee appointments stand, no vote required.
The board approved unanimously the following:

  • A resolution for an adjustment of the budgeted fund balance for central cafeteria budget as recommended by state auditor
  • Adjustment to board policy 5.302, regarding sick leave, to include the phrase “Full Time.” This is no change from the policy currently in practice.
  • 23-24 LEA Compliance Report
Superintendent Troy Kilzer shared the following updates:
Three Portrait of a Graduate design team has reflected on five attributes for graduates, including adaptability, communication, critical thinking, empathy and integrity. This project will impact strategic planning and be impactful for all grades, he said.
Neal Goff has been hired at Chester County High School as the new Construction Technology and TCAT Advance Manufacturing instructor.
Student performance data is expected to be available soon. Kilzer reported every school has made an improvement for the most recent school year.
The Nov. 16 school board meeting will be held at 5 p.m., at West Chester Elem.
