Standoff occurs at Johnson Circle in Henderson

On Saturday around 6 p.m. Officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to a residence on Johnson Circle, on a report of a man making threats to harm himself and others.
According to a press release from HPD, when responding officers arrived, they observed a person who they knew to be 38-year-old Jonathan Garner of Henderson, standing in the driveway with the trunk of his car open. Officers then observed him get a firearm out of his trunk. When Officers spoke to him, he reportedly was very agitated and made several comments that concerned officers. He refused to cooperate and made several references that he was armed and spoke of his and his weapons capabilities, but did not point a weapon at officers. Initial Officers continued to communicate with Mr. Garner who entered his back yard and sat down, and continued to show signs of potential self-harm and aggression. Additional HPD Officers and Chester County Sheriff Deputies began to set up a secure safety perimeter.
HPD crisis negotiators arrived shortly after the initial report and began speaking to Mr. Garner to attempt to deescalate the situation. HPD negotiators spoke with Mr. Garner for over two hours, until additional negotiators and Officers from Jackson Police Department arrived, at which point they began working and assisting in conjunction with on scene HPD negotiators and officers.
After about four hours of speaking with Mr. Garner, negotiators did talk him into complying and leaving the area of his three weapons, at which time he was taken into custody.
“I am very grateful that this incident ended without anyone being injured, I want to commend all the work that every Officer from all agencies involved did, that led to this successful outcome,” stated Chief of Police Gary A. Davidson. 
Garner was charged with reckless endangerment and domestic assault and is held in the Chester County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
