American Legion to re-dedicate gravesite

Posted

American Legion Davidson-Haltom Post 157 in Henderson will re-dedicate the life and death of US Army Private Eugene Marvin Cox at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at Cave Springs Cemetery in Henderson. Cox was killed in action during the Korean War.
Earlier in 2025, members of Legion Post 157 had determined that the gravesite for PVT Cox had fallen into disrepair and decided to refurbish the headstone at Legion expense. That work has now been completed.
Born in September 21, 1929, little is known about Cox. He apparently lived in Chester County most of his life and may have graduated from Chester County High School in 1947 or 1948. He had two sisters at the time of his death – Mrs. Jim Hearn of Henderson and Miss Patsy Cox of Bethel Springs.
Cox entered the US Army on June 12, 1951 and was sent to Camp Shelby in Mississippi for his basic training. He was evidently sent to the 45th Infantry Division immediately after that basic training. The 45th Infantry Division was an activated National Guard division from Oklahoma; research indicates Cox was one of about 4,500 active-duty soldiers sent to the 45th Infantry Division to fill its ranks. Cox deployed to Korea on November 16, 1951 with the 45th Infantry Division. He was killed in action just two months later on January 24, 1952. He was just 22 years old.
The public is invited to join the members of American Legion Post 157 as we thank PVT Cox for his life and service and sacrifice for our freedoms that we enjoy today and re-dedicate ourselves to the four pillars of the American Legion: Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children and Youth.
