At a time when many people due to COVID—19 are in distressed
conditions without adequate food and household needs, etc., Oasis Community
Development Corporation in Henderson took lessons learned from movement
builders in the 1950’s and 1960’s and brought strength and hope to their
community.
On April 4, 2020,
the 52nd Anniversary of the Assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
Oasis CDC distributed food to over 150 families.
Oasis Founder, Rev. Marles and Lady Sylvia Flowers and their
team conveyed their reasons for doing this and how they intend to do more of
this type of work in the coming days and weeks. “We see people in distress
every day and when moments like these occur, we cannot and will not stand by
and do nothing. Our CDC has been working in various areas across Tennessee and
are connected in other states as well with expanded works. Now that we are in a
pandemic, we are preparing to go beyond food distribution and include programs
with workforce readiness, economic development, job placement, education and
technology that we have prepared and are now moving forward. As God’s Word declares
us to be overcomers in various times and challenges, and as we saw others do
so, we say today... we too shall overcome!”
For ongoing distribution, support and donations of food
items and resources are being requested to be brought to 529
Luray Ave. location any day between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The items can be for
boys/girls, men/women and various sizes. Donations can also be mailed to P.O.
