Anthony Nelson Bolton passed away Sept. 8, 2026.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bobby Russ officiating. Burial followed at Henderson City Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. Friday and from noon-2 p.m. Saturday.
He was born on April 14, 1943, in Jackson, to C.H. Cleon Hawthorn (Slim) and Lucile (Cile) Spight Bolton of Henderson.
The majority of his life was lived in Henderson near his family, his friends and on the family land that he loved. He was a “people person.” He never met a stranger. He had many friends that he maintained close relationships with throughout his lifetime.
He was a 1961 graduate of Chester County High School. He was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church of Pinson. Throughout his years of attending Grace Baptist Church, he served in various roles, such as Church Treasurer, Adult Sunday School teacher and a member of the Building Committee and Budget Committee.
He loved his Lord, his family, Chester County and the farm where he grew up. He loved the game of golf, and he loved to play bluegrass music. He enjoyed all kinds of music, but he loved playing the resonator guitar (dobro) best. He was a member of the Jackson Plectral Society. He was a Mason.
Anthony was in the car business for 25 years, first at Bolton Ford, then at Bolton-Lofton Chevrolet and later at Bolton Trade Company. From 1969 to 1972, he worked in Savannah for the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency as a wildlife officer. He was County Mayor of Chester County from 1986 until 1998. While County Mayor, he served on many boards as a representative from Chester County. In 1998, he received his real-estate license and spent 15 years as a real-estate agent for Re-Max Realtors and Tri-County Realtors in Henderson.
He also served in the military in the Army and National Guard from 1960 through 1963.
He is survived by his three children, Marjorie “Marjie” (Dave) Bolton Pjontek of Henderson, Rebecca “Becky” (George) Bolton Cox of Henderson (daughters of Elaine Clayton Bolton) and Barry “Bear” (Joy) Bolton of Henderson (son of Sybil Morrison Bolton); his two stepchildren, Todd (Michelle) Payne of Cordova and Jennifer (John) Woodall of Houston, Texas, (son and daughter of Jeanette Chappell Bolton); his four grandchildren, Allie Mei (Chase) Pjontek Thoms of Albany, N.Y., Luke Anthony (Kaitlyn) Pjontek of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Steven Pjontek of Murfreesboro and Zane Bolton of Memphis; four step grandchildren, Mary Grace (David) Payne Mansfield, Ethan Payne, Jameson Woodall and Jesse Woodall; his brother, Michael (Julia) Bolton of Henderson; one great-grandson, Hudson Thoms; a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Mansfield; and his special friend, Bonnie Cox.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Chappell Bolton; his parents, C.H. Cleon Hawthorn “Slim” Bolton and Lucile “Cile” Spight Bolton; and his three sisters, Joyce (Jim) Bolton Bryant, Jeannine (Ken) Bolton Donahue and Shirley (Mel Pratt and Jere Cox) Bolton Pratt Cox.
