The bats were alive in Saturday’s doubleheader between the Freed-Hardeman Lions and the No. 9 University of the Cumberlands Patriots. There were five home runs in game one’s 12-1 defeat before the teams combined for eight homers in game two’s 16-12 loss. The Lions (17-13, 0-2 MSC) fell behind early due to the Patriots’ power, with UC tallying five long balls in the first game.
The Lions managed to escape the Cumberlands’ (23-6, 5-0 MSC) shutout with a Brooks Jones single scoring a run.
