Blackburn, Kustoff visit local leaders, first responders

Posted

United States Senator Marsha Blackburn made a stop in Chester County Friday morning, where she sat down with local leaders to discuss some of the issues affecting communities today.
Among topics of discussion were inflation and the increased presence of fentanyl. When asked about contention, hope and unity, Blackburn responded, “What unites us, and what unites Tennesseans, regardless of where their party affiliation is, is Tennesseans believe in respecting your fellow man and they believe in helping your neighbor, and they believe in the goodness of this country. I wish we had more Tennessee in DC. I think sometimes the rhetoric that the white house, the leadership of the house and the senate put out, that you don’t realize that beneath that there’s a lot of bipartisanship that is taking place. The republic survives and it is a good reminder … that we as Americans come together to believe in freedom in the power of individuals for self government and the reminder that we are a government that is of, by and for the people, a government that is there to make certain that people reserve their rights, not to issue rights to the people.”

“One of the issues that we have heard a good bit about here is the issue of inflation, and the effect that has on city and county budgets,” Blackburn said, noting costs of fuel, school budgets, food costs and jail operational costs.
Another topic of discussion was an increased presence of the drug Fentanyl. “Our law enforcement entities are very concerned about the impact of Fentanyl. This is coming across the southern border,” she added. “The sheriff was saying they’ve never seen anything like it - the overdoses, the deaths, getting these autopsy reports and it was Fentanyl in the system.
