The Chester County Board of Education met Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Chester County Junior High. All members of the Board were present at this meeting.
The meeting was kicked off with a spotlight celebration on the Chester County School Choir. Students from the seventh and eighth grades were in attendance to sing several songs for the Board and audience, including “Fum, Fum, Fum!” “Silent Night,” “Silver Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Senator Page Walley gave a presentation to the Board during this meeting. He shared his convictions on providing good public education to the state of Tennessee. Emphasis was given to his pursuit of funding for public schools in the face of rising prices. He applauded the Choir and affirmed the need for the arts in public schools. When he opened up the room for questions, concern was raised on Pre-K funding for special needs students. Walley acknowledged the importance of this funding and showed support, but he could not provide a concrete answer at the time.
A recommendation was presented for funding to send six local educators to a program of the National Institute of School Leader Training. This training would last a year and would take place through Freed-Hardeman University both in-person and online. This would be to prepare future and current leaders in our schools to develop a broader scope of approaches to successful teaching and leadership practices. This funding request was approved.
The next item on the agenda was the approval of the 2026-2027 school calendar. The calendar is available on the district website.
