The Chester County Board of Education met Tuesday, March 18, at the Chester County Middle School library. All the members were present at the meeting. There were no delegations and no public comments.
The Spotlight/Celebration was given by Chester County Middle School Principal Renee Thomas. She showed a slideshow of pictures of the middle schoolers at all the events throughout the year.
The first item on the agenda was a recommendation to the board of education to approve the revision of the CCBOE Policy 4.205 “Enrollment in Advanced Courses.” There has been an increased number of students joining advanced placements, college level examination program, dual enrollment, local dual credit and statewide dual courses. The revision is to go into further detail to make students more aware of the commitments required to take an advanced course, including the importance of completing the course if deciding to sign up. It was unanimously approved.
The next agenda item was a recommendation to the board of education to approve a list of usable items as “Surplus Property.” There are many outdated school supplies and materials unable to be used that are stored at North Chester. The materials can not be resold because they were purchased by tax dollars given to the school system. A company called Cornerstone Technologies offered to remove everything and dispose of it. This was a motion to recognize this recommendation to be able to make the next necessary moves forward. It was approved by all board members.
The board members discussed a recommendation to the board of education to approve the tenure of eligible district educators. The list of educators were Ashley Fletcher (First Grade) from East Chester Elementary, Kyle Newsom (Special Education) from Chester County Middle School, Brandi Welch (School Counselor at Jacks Creek Elementary and West Chester Elementary), Michael Bolton (Social Studies) and Joshua Moore (Spanish) from Chester County High School. It was approved with no one in opposition.
The next CCBOE meeting is at the Chester County Board of Education Conference Room at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.
