The Chester County Board of Education met Tuesday, Jan 20, at Chester County Middle School. All members of the Board were present at this meeting.
Spotlight was given to the students of Chester County Middle. The different “houses’ of the school took turns highlighting the main attribute that they were to show. The administration of the school is proud of how this system promotes connections with students of different ages and with the teachers. They were also proud to share that their newly revived Beta Club has a membership of over 140 students. The students in attendance who are members of the club presented on the four Beta Pillars: Academic Achievement, Character, Leadership and Service.
Hunter Callis gave the board a very special presentation. For almost 15 years, Chester County High School U.S. History students have been at the top of state scores for EOC tests. This year, Chester County was fourth in the state scores and fourth in growth in the state. These combined achievements make Chester County first in the state for U.S. History. Congratulations are given to both the hardworking students and the wonderful teachers who work so hard to make this happen.
Of the two actionable items discussed during this meeting, the first was to accept TSBA’s recommendation to adjust the CCBOE policy manual. This would change the policy regarding the application for the institution of charter schools. While Chester County has never had an application for a school, the board decided that it is important to have these policies in place in case of future change. This was approved by the board.
The other actionable item was the approval of a new part-time maintenance employee for the food service department. This worker would only provide maintenance for the food service department. This was approved by the board.
It was also shared that the renovations to the Chester County High School lobby restrooms have been completed.
The next board meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 17, in the Chester County Board of Education conference room.
