CCJHS Eagles battle hard, fall 44–32 in high-scoring clash

Posted

The Chester County Junior High Eagles went toe-to-toe in a high-scoring contest Thursday night but came up short in a 44–32 loss. The game was filled with explosive plays, gutsy responses, and standout performances from several Eagles despite the final score.
First Half Fireworks
The opponent struck first on a 28-yard touchdown run, but Chester County answered with a 59-yard drive capped by Jsean Austin’s 6-yard score and a Peyton Dickerson conversion for an 8–6 lead. Maddox Lewis later hit Austin for a 35-yard touchdown, followed by a Brett Wilson conversion, to put the Eagles up 16–14.
The opponent’s run game then took control, breaking loose for touchdowns of 42 and 50 yards plus a 77-yard burst that set up a 29-yard TD pass. Chester County trailed 28–16 at halftime.
“We went toe to toe with the best team in our area,” Head Coach Chad Hanna said. “The game could have gone either way with momentum shifting back and forth for both teams.”
Eagles Keep Swinging
The opponent extended the lead to 36–16 in the third, but the Eagles battled back. Lewis found Wilson for a 9-yard touchdown, with Austin adding the conversion to make it 36–24. In the fourth, Austin sprinted 40 yards for another score, and Lewis connected with Wilson for the conversion, closing the gap to 44–32.
“I’m proud we were able to take what the defense was giving us and mix in the run and pass game to complete some chunk plays and set up several long drives,” Hanna said.
Turning Points
While the Eagles scored 32 points behind big plays from Austin, Wilson, Dickerson, and Lewis, the defense gave up six runs of 40 yards or more, four for touchdowns. A second-quarter fumble, a kickoff return turnover, and a dropped sure TD pass also proved costly.
“We were just not able to stop the rushing attack with their speed and depth,” Hanna added. “Also, a couple of fumbles and key drop passes really hurt us. We still have a lot to work on, but I look to finish the season strong in our last three contests.”
