CCJHS Eagles fall short in thriller at Fayette West

Posted

The Chester County Junior High Eagles left it all on the field Thursday night at Fayette West, but came up just shy in a 30–28 loss.
West struck first, going 8 plays for a touchdown and adding the two-point try for an 8–0 lead. The Eagles moved the ball 44 yards on their opening drive before a fumble ended the threat. The defense got it back when Jsean Austin ripped the ball away from a West runner, but an interception returned for a touchdown soon had Chester County trailing 14–0.
The Eagles answered late in the first half when quarterback Maddox Lewis found Austin deep for a 28-yard touchdown. The two-point attempt failed, and Chester County went into halftime down 14–6.
Chester County dominated the third quarter with a 15-play, 80-yard drive that ate up almost the entire frame. Austin capped it with a two-yard run, then caught the conversion from Lewis to tie the game at 14. West needed only two plays to take the lead back at 22–14.
Lewis and Austin hooked up again for a 53-yard pop pass touchdown to even things at 22, but West answered with another quick drive to make it 30–22 in the final minutes.
With the clock running out, Lewis hit Austin on another pop pass, and the speedster raced 67 yards, weaving across the field for a score as time expired. The Eagles’ two-point try to force overtime came up just short, sealing the 30–28 loss.
Austin scored three times—two through the air and one on the ground—while Lewis threw for three touchdowns on the night.
