Chester County gets early summer work against Clarksville Northwest / Madison Academic

The Chester County Eagles got an early look at where they stand Thursday as they hosted summer scrimmages against Clarksville Northwest and Madison Academic.
With only limited practice time under their belts, the Eagles focused less on the scoreboard and more on establishing the identity Head Coach Tarius Johnson wants his team to carry into the upcoming season.
Following the scrimmages, Johnson said his primary goal was to see whether his young team could begin developing the foundation of its identity.
“I honestly was just wanting to see if we could stamp our identity,” Johnson said. “We are extremely raw and inexperienced with not much practice time, so expectations were simply, can we do the controllables along with some principles that we have been able to touch on?”
Johnson was encouraged by several aspects of his team’s effort and attitude.
“I saw that we indeed did play with the identity of getting after it, locking up, being good teammates,” Johnson said. “Everyone from the floor to the bench was attentive and engaged, and I was pleased to see that.”
The Eagles still have plenty of work ahead as the summer progresses. Johnson pointed to offensive spacing and defensive communication as two major areas of emphasis moving forward.
“There are really a novel of things we need to work on from my view,” Johnson said. “A main point is understanding spacing offensively and team defense, being on a string and having your teammates’ backs in rotations.”
With several weeks of summer workouts still ahead, Thursday’s scrimmages provided valuable experience for a Chester County squad looking to gain confidence, build chemistry and establish its identity before the start of the 2026-27 season.
The Eagles travelled to Jackson Monday, June 8, to compete in another round of summer scrimmages as they continue preparing for the upcoming season.
