It was a good week for the Chester County girls’ soccer team. The Eaglettes picked up three wins in four days, beating JCM, Dyer County, and McNairy Central.
On Monday, Chester County blanked JCM, 4–0. Claudia Bailey scored three goals, and Sam Gonzalez added one. Alyssa Jenkins led the way on defense, helping the Eaglettes keep the shutout. The match was called with 11 minutes left because of lightning, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Tuesday’s game was tighter. Chester County slipped past Dyer County, 2–1, with goals from Claudia Bailey and Miley Cupples. Kendall Cherry helped steady the defense down the stretch to close it out.
Thursday night’s district matchup with McNairy Central went the distance. After a scoreless regulation and overtime, the game came down to penalty kicks. Claudia Bailey, Ella Kate Knoell, and Lydia Elliott each converted, and goalkeeper Abbie Greene came up with two big saves to secure the win.
Head coach Michael Bolton was happy with the week but knows the team still has work to do.
“In terms of winning, it was a great week. We went 3-0, culminating with a big district win in PKs Thursday night over McNairy. The girls are playing tough and hard. There are still a lot of things we have to improve on. We still haven’t played our best yet, but this week was a big step towards making a good run in October,” Bolton said.
