The Chester County Junior High girls’ soccer team bounced back in a big way Thursday evening, defeating St. Mary’s by a final score of 7–1.
The Lady Eagles wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Lucy Deweese netted a goal in the opening three minutes. St. Mary’s answered with a penalty kick, but Chester County quickly regained control. Shelbie Cross and Callie Lowrance each found the back of the net, and Deweese set up Presley Ward for another goal to give the Eagles a 4–1 lead at halftime.
The second half belonged entirely to Chester County. Neveah Jones assisted Deweese on her second goal of the night, Lowrance scored her second goal, and Kailey Gutierrez provided a perfect setup for Cheyanne McDonald, who capped the scoring.
Head Coach Lauren Wallis praised her team’s effort after a tough start to the week:
“After such a big loss earlier in the week I was proud of the girls for pulling out a win. Our defensive line did a great job of keeping their shape and maintaining coverage. Our mid field worked hard and kept control of the ball in the other team’s half for the majority of the game. We still have some things to fine tune, especially before we see Lexington on Tuesday, but overall it was a good way to end the week.”
With strong teamwork and a balanced attack, the Lady Eagles rolled to victory and built momentum heading into next week’s matchup with Lexington.
The JH Lady Eagles battled hard in the first half of their match against University School of Jackson, holding USJ to just two goals while creating several chances of their own. However, the second half shifted momentum as USJ scored seven unanswered goals, handing the Lady Eagles a 9–0 loss. Head Coach Lauren Wallis praised her team’s effort early on and noted strong play from Lucy Deweese, Callie Lowrance, and Shelbie Cross, while emphasizing the need for consistency across both halves. The Lady Eagles will look to bounce back in their next match.
