This week marks the beginning of the regular season of football as Chester County High School prepares to take on Fayette-Ware tomorrow night.
The CCHS Eagles along with the Chester County Junior High Eagles Football team played in the jamboree at Decatur Riverside last Friday for some more practice.
The junior high junior varsity played two-ten minute quarters and won 14-0.
The CCJHS varsity team played Riverside the day before in a real game and came out on top with a win of 14-8.
The CCHS freshmen game resulted in a tie of 12-12.
The CCHS junior varsity team lost 8-0 with Riverside scoring their points within the last minute of the game.
Then, the CCHS Eagles varsity team came up short by three points in their game that was two 12 minute quarters.
With the score 21-21, Riverside kicked a field goal on fourth down to make the score 24-21.
Some Eagles fans were not happy since the kicker had no pressure from the Eagles due to the fact that they did not play the kicks during the jamboree.
So with the little amount of time they had left, the Eagles attempted to make the come back.
The last play of the game was a pass to Chad Barham that turned out to be a major gain for the Eagles but defenders pressured Barham out of bounds within the 20 yard-line. Some argued it was one second left on the clock when he went out of bounds but the game was called at 24-21 with the Riverside Panthers on top.
Though the Eagles lost, Head Coach Dewond Johnson liked what he saw from his team.
“I feel like our kids keep getting better every week. That’s what’s scary about this bunch,” he said. “we’ve got some talent. We’re doing the little things better. The process is to just continue to get better.”
