After wiping out Jackson Christian 18-1 last Thursday, the Chester County Junior High Lady Eagles Softball team remains undefeated in the school’s regular season with one game left that was played Tuesday against Decatur County.
Head Coach Wes Murphy said he liked how the girls stay focused throughout the game due to them winning so much that evening and through the season.
“I love how focused our girls came into the game against Jackson Christian. When you are as strong as we are this year, there is always a fear of letting your guard down or not playing to your best level. Our girls warmed up strong and stayed focused even though we were winning by a lot. That's sometimes hard to do under those conditions,” he said.
This quality of staying focused is just one feature of this team that Murphy says is special.
“This team is very special. We are packed full of talent. We have 18 players, and there isn't a weak spot in our lineup for JV or Varsity. All 18 girls can hit the ball well. They also are very fundamentally sound on defense which speaks well for their parents and/or previous coaches they have had along the way.”
Murphy is in his first year as CCJHS Softball Head Coach and he says that this special team has made him love his first year in the position.
“I have loved my first year coaching the softball team. This group specifically has made the transition very easy due to their passion for the sport and coming in with such a high level of knowledge for the game,” he said.
Read the Chester County Independent next week to see if they closed their season undefeated with a win over Decatur County.
