After
a half hour of Meet and Greet time concurrent with inspiring patriotic music,
the scheduled quarterly meeting of the Chester County Republican Party came to
order at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2020 at Henderson City Hall upstairs, 121
Crook Avenue, in Henderson. Many of the county’s leading Republicans were also
in attendance. A brief business meeting was conducted to bring all concerned
citizens up to speed on what the Chester County Republican Party is doing,
especially with preparations for the 2020 elections.
The
meeting highlight was the conduct of the 2020 Republican County Convention
(Caucus) to select Republicans to run in the August elections. Ms. Beverly
Morton, the County Tax Assessor, was nominated by her son, Zach Morton, to be
the Republican nominee. There were no other nominations and Mr. Chad Cherry,
the County GOP Chair, then called for Ms. Morton to be voted the Republican
nominee by acclamation – and the “Ayes” were unanimous.
At
the conclusion of the business meeting, Mr. Scott Golden of Jackson, the Chair
of the Tennessee Republican Party, gave a very-much-appreciated and
inspirational talk. Mr. Golden talked about how the COVID-19 virus is impacting
the state and reiterated what precautions people should adopt to curtail the
spread of this virulent virus. Mr.
Golden also presented an overview of previous presidential elections and was
obviously encouraged at the support the Tennessee public is giving President
Trump. In closing, Mr. Golden noted that the 2020 election will be the most
important election of our time and will decide which way our country will go
for years to come.
The
next quarterly meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2020 in the
Council chambers at Henderson City Hall. For more information, please call Paul
