QHMG / Stone Country Records’ newest signing, girl-next-door singer-songwriter Lakelin Lemmings, today released “Parking Lot,” her second song on the label. A laid-back modern country waltz offering the perfect groove for just hangin’ out with friends, “Parking Lot” is Lakelin’s loving tribute to small-town teenagers’ favorite meeting spot.
Penned by Lakelin alongside co-writer Tiffany Goss and the track’s producer, Ash Bowers, “Parking Lot” is anchored by a slice-of-life lyric that explains how even an old, faded slab of blacktop can be a social epicenter that means the world to young country guys and girls:
“Parking lot in a small town / Friday right around sundown / You show up, and show out / Cause there’s nothing else to do / You win friends, you lose some / You fall in love, and you break up / When you’re 16 your world spins around / A parking lot in a small town”
“It’s your friends you meet there who make it special, but I wanted to write a song that shows some love to country parking lots,” says Lakelin. “This is a song for all my friends, and anyone else our age, who knows what it’s like to live in a small town, to sometimes have nowhere better to hang out than the parking lot, and all the memories you make at that place.”
“Parking Lot” is the follow-up to “American Dreamin’,” Lakelin’s autobiographical debut track release on Stone Country Records, which led to Country Evolution proclaiming her as “one of country music’s most promising new voices.” Entertainment Focus noted that “the West Tennessee native is turning heads with her powerful voice and relatable storytelling.”
Now 19 years old, Lakelin began performing in talent shows and local festivals at the age of six and was writing and recording her own music in Nashville by the time she turned 12. The country prodigy inked her first Music City publishing deal at just 17 and amassed more than 100,000 followers on TikTok before signing an artist deal with Stone Country Records in June. Connection and communication with her audience is what drives Lakelin’s songwriting. She strives to let listeners – especially girls her own age – know that they’re seen and heard.
