Hello to everyone! First things first, let us thank the Lord for allowing us to see another week and other month. September has made its arrival. I pray and hope you had a great week. As we go through this day, let us remember today is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Labor Day weekend has come and gone! I pray for all of our loved ones from out of town to make it back home safely. There were plenty of family reunions. The family is very important! For as long as you live, never forget that! I know most of us took some time out to be with our family and friends. I think about all of my military brothers and sisters who have served or are serving in the Marine Corp, Air Force, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard so we can enjoy life as such. So take some time out and pray for our military members who are away from their families.
I know we pigged out this weekend. My brother Dennis Brown did a great job this year grilling the chickens, hot dogs, burgers and pork shoulders. The meat was so tender it would melt in your mouth, and we had everything else for a cook out to eat - potato salad, baked bean, corn, chess pies, cakes, etc. For the most of us, I know you enjoyed some good cooking also.
Now, since we have eaten all of the high cholesterol food and enjoyed every bite, guess what? The month of September is health awareness month, so call your doctor and make an appointment for a checkup because the life you save may be your own.
The beginning of next week is the week of 9/11. It will be a sad week because most of us who were around at the time remember where we were and what we were doing on Sept. 11, 2001 (9/11) when terrorists attacked New York City and Washington, D.C., with hijacked commercial airliners. Sunday, Sept. 11, will marked 21 years since that day. Every year, I will always acknowledge 9/11. On Sunday, Sept. 11, I hope you will take time out of your busy schedule to remember those who died, including police and firefighter personnel who sacrificed their lives heroically while trying to help the innocent victims. I hope you have your American Flag flying at half mast for the 2,996 people who died at the hands of terrorists as well as all others who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting the war on terrorism since then. I hope as long as we are alive that we will not forget about those families that lost a loved one on that day. Keep those families up in prayer. Let us keep HOPE alive for our America.
Come one, come all to the Annual Community Stew. It is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sept. 10. at 543 and 563 Trice Street, Henderson, the home of Darlene Jones and Matilda Massengill. If you are going to donate meat, please have it there on Friday, Sept. 9. Please have all vegetables there before 8 a.m. on Sept. 10. Hope to see you there.
No one can prepare us for a loss; it comes like a swift wind, but take comfort in knowing that they are now resting in the arms of our Lord. Our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. John Riley Barham. He was a man of God who loved his family and friends, but most of all, he loved serving the Lord. He is resting now with no more pain or hurt. John will be missed but not forgotten! Also, to the family of Mr. Bobby Ruth, our deepest condolences to you. I remember him and his sister at the Four Way Flower shop. I also remember his brother Mr. Jimmy Ruth. The family was so nice to my mother Annie Clay Brown. Our prayers are with you!
On the prayer list this week: the Barham and Ruth family.
Pray for our loved ones who are in the hospitals, for the ones who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families, for the men and women who are serving our country and also for the incarcerated.
Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can.
