City of Henderson Community News

Posted

Hello to everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week. It is a blessing to be a part of your life once again. This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it!
There is something I have not said in a long time. THANK YOU for taking the time to read the Chester County Independent. Like I said before, it may not be The New York Times or The Washington Post, but it is ours, and I am so thankful for it. This hometown newspaper keeps us connected to what is happening in our community, and we appreciate the hard work of the Chester County Independent team along with all the others who help make this a community paper.
Monday, Aug. 10, marked the first day of classes for all seven counties served by the Head Start program: Chester, Decatur, Hardin, Hardeman, Haywood, Henderson and McNairy. There is nothing quite like the first day of school – the excitement, the anticipation and sometimes a few tears. Our three- and four-year-olds stepped from their parents’ arms into a classroom full of new faces and new experiences. This year, more than 300 children began this important chapter in their lives. I can still remember the first day of school for each of my children. Each was different, but the emotions were the same – joy and sadness all at once. Before you know it, they are moving from elementary to middle school to junior high school to high school and then on to college. We pray for a blessed and safe school year for all Head Start students, families and staff.
Well, the county election is over! Congratulations to all the winners! Congratulations as well to the ones that did not win the seat you were running for! Losing an election can be emotionally challenging; however, just think about the risk you took and the dedication you showed in running for office. The city of Henderson would like to say, “Thank you for stepping up and putting yourself forward. You gave voters a meaningful choice and showed true leadership.”
The Chester County Senior Center would like to say thank you to Mrs. Maria Holiday-Chenelo sharing her workshop, “Digital Banking Basics: A Simple Guide to Staying Safe Online.” Mrs. Holiday-Chenelo explained what digital banking is, shared important online safety tips and taught us how to spot scams along with much more. The audience was very engaged, attentive and excited to learn how to use their phones and computers safely and confidently. Thank you, Ms. Jennifer, for allowing Mrs. Holiday-Chenelo to come and conduct this workshop! If you have not visited the Senior Center in Chester County, please do so. There is something exciting happening all the time. For more information about the center, contact Jennifer Todd, Director, at 247 East Main Street, Henderson, TN 38340, or call 989-7434.
The City of Henderson sends out belated birthday wishes to Brooklyn Walker, 8/7; Patricia Hardin, 8/8; Fawn Waden, 8/9; Larry Jones, 8/10; and Brianna Hunt, 8/13. May the Lord bless you with many more birthdays.
Remember to pray for the sick and shut in, our community leaders, government officials, law enforcement, the U.S.A., the President, first responders, teachers and healthcare workers. Remember to patronize our local businesses here in town. Let us try to support our own as much as we can.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: “The safest place for our hearts is not locked away in retreat, but entrusted to the One who, in the middle of all the noise and chaos and even danger, truly understands protects and brings restoration and healing for each new day!” – unknown
