Hello to everyone! First things first, let us thank the Lord for allowing us to see another week and another month. September has made its arrival. I pray and hope you had a great week. As we go through this day, let us remember that today is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Labor Day weekend has come and gone! I pray that all our loved ones from out of town and in town made it back home safely. There were plenty of family reunions. Family is very important! For as long as you live, never forget that! I know most of us took some time out to be with our family and friends. I think about all my military brothers and sisters who have and are serving so we can enjoy life as such. So, take some time out and pray for our military families that are away from their loved ones.
I know we pigged out this weekend. My brother, Dennis Brown, did a great job this year grilling the chickens, hot dogs, burgers and pork shoulders. The meat was so tender that it would melt in your mouth, and we had everything else for a cook out – potato salad, baked bean, corn, chess pies and cakes of all kinds! I know most of you enjoyed some good cooking also.
Now, since we have eaten all of the high cholesterol food and enjoyed every bite, guess what? The month of September is health awareness month. So, call your doctor and make appointment for a checkup because the life you save may be your own!
This week is the week of 9/11. It will be a sad week. Most of us who were around at the time remember where we were and what we were doing on Sept. 11, 2001 when terrorists attacked New York City and Washington, D.C., with hijacked commercial airliners. Friday, Sept. 11, will mark 25 years. I will always acknowledge 9/11. I hope you will take time out of your busy schedule to remember those who died, including police and firefighter personnel who sacrificed their lives heroically while trying to help the innocent victims. I hope you have your American Flag flying half-mast for the 2,996 people who died at the hands of terrorists as well as all others who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting the war on terrorism since then. I hope as long as we are alive that we will not forget about those families that lost a loved one on that day. Keep those families up in prayer. Let us keep HOPE alive for our America.
Come one! Come all! The Annual Trice Street Community Stew is scheduled for Sept. 12. The time and place to be there are 2 p.m. at 543 and 563 Trice Street, Henderson. If you are going to donate meat, please have it there on Friday, Sept. 11. Please have all vegetables there before 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Hope to see you there.
No one can prepare us for a loss; it comes like a swift wind. But take comfort in knowing that they are now resting in the arms of our Lord. Our deepest condolences go to the family of Mrs. Shaska Stackens-Barnes, a loving mother, sister, niece, grandmother, granddaughter and friend. Shaska passed away Sunday morning, Sept 6. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. Please keep her children, Jurnee Prather and Justice Wyke, and the rest of her family in your prayers now. No more pain or hurt. Shaska will be missed but not forgotten!
Happy Birthday to Alex Overway on 9/11; my son, Captain Frank Holiday, Jr. on 9/16. He is serving our Country in the U.S. Army; my nephew Edward Reeves on 9/18; and my sister Sylvia Flowers on 9/19. May the Lord keep on blessing all of you to see many more!
On the prayer list this week: the Stacken family. Please pray for our loved ones that are in the hospitals, for the ones that are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families, for the men and women that are serving our country and also for the incarcerated. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can.
Thought for the week: God took care of me yesterday! He is taking care of me now! He will take care of me tomorrow!
