Greetings! I am glad to be with you for another week. It is only by the grace of our Lord and Saviour. For this is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it! Hello family and friends from all around! I want you to know how much I appreciate you. You have taken time out of your busy schedule to read our hometown paper. Without you, there would not be a Chester County Independent!
Congratulations to our Chester County Marching Eagles! They finished second overall out of every band competing at the West Creek Coyote Classic and earned the title of Reserve Grand Champion. The City of Henderson and Chester County are so proud of you. To God be the Glory, you made it there and back safety. Keep up the great work!
The BBQ Festival was another great success. My husband and I had a wonderful time.
We had the opportunity to visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Mo., and what an unforgettable experience it was. We were especially blessed to be there with a wonderful lady from our church, Prophetess Bledsoe, who is 85 years young! One of her greatest desires was to be there to see her brother, the famous baseball player Reggie Smith, honored and inducted into the Hall of Games. It was such a special and meaningful moment for her and for all of us who had the opportunity to witness it, so we took her!
There were also many other notable baseball players celebrated, including Rob Parker, Andree Thornton, Gray Matthews, Sr. and Ralph Garr. The celebration and ceremony were absolutely phenomenal! So many of us know the names Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays, but there are so many other incredible stories that deserve to be told and remembered. I was especially amazed to learn more about the three women who played professional baseball alongside the men in the Negro Leagues: Toni Stone, Mamie “Peanut” Johnson and Connie Morgan. Their courage, determination, talent and love for the game helped make history!
The history of the Negro Leagues Baseball is something I believe every child should have the opportunity to learn about. It is not just the history of baseball; it is a story of perseverance, courage, opportunity and breaking barriers. If you ever get the opportunity to visit Kansas City, Mo., I strongly encourage you to visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. You will leave with a greater appreciation for the incredible men and women who helped shape the sport that so many of us love to play and watch. What a wonderful weekend filled with family, fellowship, celebration and history!
Did you know that Sept. 28 is the most widely recognized date for National Sons Day? I have two grandsons and two sons. I am so proud of them. Just want to let the Franks and LaDerrick know I am proud to be your mother and grandmother! To all my Community sons, Head Start sons, Office sons and Church sons, I love you and Happy Sons Day!
Well, another month has come and gone! October is here! And we welcome the month because it brings so many different things such as cooler temperatures, changing leaves and crisp mornings. I am loving it all!
On the birthday list: Bonita Croom on 9/29. Happy belated birthday to Janet Beaver on 9/27! I pray that the Lord will bless you with many more!
On the prayer list this week: Please continue to pray for the Croom family, pray for our loved ones that are in the hospitals, for the ones that are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women that are serving our country.
Thought for today: Others may speak into our lives. But Jesus has the final say! He covers the lies with love! May He heal us and help us to believe!
Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Text me at 608-6132 and leave your message. I would like to say thank you to the ones that are calling and emailing me with your news. Keep it up and send me more. HAVE A GREAT WEEK! LOVE YOU!
