Hello to everyone! It is a new day and a new week. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! The chill of fall is in the air. We have had some nice cool days. This is my favorite time of the year. I hope you had a wonderful week! For me and my household, this was a great week. My husband and I went to Texas for our son’s going home celebration on Oct. 24. On that very same day there were two more celebrations happening at the same time. My dear friend from Brownville, Ms. Lola Bynum, and I worked together for many years at SWHRA Head Start. She and I shared the same birthday, 10/26. We would call and wish each other a Happy Birthday. The last time Lola and I saw each other was on July 23, 2026 at our Head Start luncheon reunion. Lola was funny and always had that beautiful smile. Also on that day, another beautiful young lady celebrated her going home service, Mrs. Eboni Burton McGowan. She is the daughter of Vivian Kelly and the late Gary Burton. Such a sweet beautiful young lady. She and LaWanna, my daughter, were in school together. Eboni is the auntie to my great-nephew Desmond Ingram, Jr. You know my family and I wanted to be at all of the services, but we cannot be like Jesus, omnipresent/everywhere at the same time. From the City of Henderson, our condolences go to the families. We are praying for you. They will be missed but not forgotten.
Condolences to the Mr. David Kelly family. The City of Henderson knows him because he was the owner of Bale’s here in Henderson. He was always such a friendly man. To his children, Pamela, Mike and Jeff, we are praying for you and your family. We will always remember Mr. Kelly.
My birthday was on Monday! Yes, my husband planned a wonderful day to celebrate my birthday! On Oct. 26, the Lord blessed me to be born to two of the most wonderful people in the universe! If someone were to ask me, “If you could choose your parents, who it would be?” My answer would be Mr. Parnell Brown and Mrs. Annie Clay Brown! Thank you, Daddy and Mother, for creating me! I am so proud to be me! Thank you, Lord, for allowing me to see another year!
This is a reminder for us who are 65 and older to mark your calendar. The Medicare Open Enrollment Period for 2027 Medicare coverage started Oct. 15 and will last until Dec. 7, 2026. During this time, all Medicare recipients can change their Medicare health plan and prescription drug coverage for 2027. Information on the 2027 plan is available. If you have question about Medicare call 1-844-940-0289 or visit www.medicare.gov for plan information.
Well, another month is on its way out, ending with Harvest Day and Halloween. These are fun times for children, who can dress up in friendly costumes, enjoy parties and eat yummy treats. This is a great time to give out healthy snacks and focus on safety. The City of Henderson wants every child, teenagers, young adult and adult to be safe. Please walk with a trusted adult. Check all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Eat only store wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers. Have a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Remember to walk and do not run from house to house. Only visit well-lit houses. Never accept rides from strangers. Look both ways before crossing the street. Walk on sidewalks whenever possible or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe. Use some reflective tape on costumes and bags to help drivers see you. Remember to limit the amount of treats you eat. Be safe and have FUN!
Speaking of fun! Did you have fun at the fair? The people that live in Lucyville heard the entertainment, the singing and people yelling from the rides. Some of the residents let me know that it was something to listen to! Hope everyone had a wonderful time.
The Veterans Day Ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, Nov. 11, in the Council Chambers on the second floor of Henderson City Hall, and it is sponsored by the American Legion Davidson Haltom Post 157 in Henderson. The ceremony will honor all military veterans who sacrificed their time, and some their lives, to keep the United States of America safe. The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony! I hope to see to see you there!
On the prayer list this week: My brother Henry Brown, Elis Brown, Amie Croom and Frank Holiday, Sr. We will be heading back to Texas because his step-mother passed away on Oct. 24, the same day we buried our son. Pray for the Kelly family, the Bynum, the Burton family, the McGowan family, Pete Collier (still in the hospital) and Topeka Wilson. Continue to pray for the United States of America. Remember to pray for the men and women that are serving our country, our police officers and everyone you know!
Thought for the day: Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. HAVE A BLESSED WEEK! LOVE YOU ALL!
