The City of Henderson Mayor and Board of Aldermen met in regular session Thursday, Feb. 9, with five in attendance. Alderman Michael Phelps was absent.
The meeting began with the presentation of Lifesaving Citation Awards to four members of the Henderson Police Department, Sgt. Michael Rhodes and Officers Bradley Ross, Jonathan Menzie and Whitney Watkins. Each of these police officers administered medical aid to injured or unresponsive victims. See page 2-A for the related story.
In other delegations, Chester County High School senior class president Stewart Brown approached the board, accompanied by fellow CCHS seniors, to request a donation from the city toward Project Graduation. The City agreed to provide a total of $1,000, which included $500 set aside by the Henderson Police Department for the program, and $500 from the city, approved unanimously.
City Recorder Jim Garland updated the board on the renovations currently underway at the City Hall. He reported they have received quotes from the contractor reflecting the costs of window replacement, as well as roof leak repairs, additional classroom plumbing, and a deduction for ice maker selection. Approximately 75-80% of the windows in the building will have to be replaced, Garland said. The Change Order for the replacement of 43 single windows and 14 double windows is $73,320. The board discussed the differences and improvements in current construction/installation practices compared with those 22 years ago when the windows were installed. The motion passed unopposed to approve all four Change Orders.
In other business, Garland updated the board on mandatory Utility Board Training (12 hours every three years), including a new requirement that each board member annually sign a statement documenting the amount of training hours they receive each year.
A board work session was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Derryl Green, Utility Director, reported 95% of the work was complete on a new water line and fire hydrants on Highway 45.
City Fire Chief Doug Acred stated the department is in preliminary meetings concerning the possibility of establishing a Safe Haven location at the fire station.
Carter Scales, Public Works Director, reported security cameras have been installed at the maintenance shop and police impound lot.
