Wanda Kaye King passed away on Feb. 11, 2025 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. She attended Piney Grove Baptist Church. Condolences and prayers to her family. Josh Simer, son of Annette and Ronnie Simer, was ordained a deacon at his church in Oxford. Annette is pianist/singer at Silerton Baptist Church. Prayers for Barry Siler who will be having minor surgery late February. Barry is the son of Bill and Vonda Siler of Silerton. A reminder that at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, there will be a fellowship of soup, sandwiches, desserts and board games at Silerton Baptist. All are welcome.
Let us hope for clear skies on Feb. 28 for a multi-planet alignment. If you have sharp vision and the skies are clear and dark, you might be able to see up to seven planets. The use of a sky/star app on a smart phone (e.g., SkyView Lite is a free one) is recommended.

Looking forward to getting beyond the cold and rainy weather. I could sure use a week of sunshine in my life and probably many others could, too. Come on, Spring! Local governmental meetings are in need of more community support. If you care about Chester County, please pay attention to what is taking place in our county and come out to commission meetings and show your interest or concerns. Everyone should be mindful of what is going on in our county and care enough to help make a difference. Montezuma sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Celeste Parker on Feb. 22, Allen Cook on Feb. 23, Imalee Montgomery on Feb. 25, Mason Wells, Sherry Thompson and Braylon Sanford on Feb. 25, Kelsa Turner, Tammy Thomas and Addison Grace Stanley on Feb. 26 and Wanda Cook on Feb. 27.
We appreciate all our members at the center and would love for more of our community to get involved. With more help, we could plan more events for our community. Membership dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining, and they are due for this current year. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better. There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and your friends. Please be in prayer for our local and federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers, people fighting the flu and COVID and the listed individuals of Kim Gray, Dobber Dyer, Brenda Hannah, Donna Doyle, Mike Lott, Linda Hopper, Cindy Kilzer, Quinten Johnson, Jerry Fletcher, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Marty Rowland, Glynn Flatt, Lizzie Vinson and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857. As always, until next time, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers!

Hello from Enville! I hope everyone is enjoying this yo-yo weather. It is cold and rainy, and we were supposed to get up to six inches of rain on Saturday. We went and moved our camper from the lot because we would flood if we get that much. We were hoping we would not have to do that, but that’s the river life! They are forecasting snow for us, too. As for me, I am done with that! But my opinion does not matter. It will make some folks happy! February is Black History Month; in 1926, historian Carter G. Goodson started Black History Week to recognize the contributions of African Americans. In 1976, the week was expanded to a month to celebrate the nation’s bicentennial. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X and Rosa Parks are often elevated and with good reason. These figures made contributions to Black history, and that cannot be overstated. There have been speeches in and around our area to reflect on Black History Month. The Enville Volunteer Fire Department will have a spaghetti supper and cakewalk at 4 p.m. on March 8 at the community center. Mark your calendars! Enville sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Harry Timmer on Feb. 22, Parker Herndon on Feb. 24, Carolyn Wright on Feb. 25 and Annie Massengill on Feb. 27. Happy Anniversary to Teddy and Ann Hollin on Feb. 27. We hope you all enjoy your special day! Please continue prayers for the family of Joyce Morris, Harold and Janice Maness, Robert and Linda Johnson, Robert Smith, Mary Lee Guyon, Mary Lou Avent, Ann Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Kaye Killingsworth, Shirley and Doyle Bishop, Karl Starnes, Jeremy Crowell, Janice Massengill Strickland, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Jeff Finley, Tom Harwell, Glenn Butts, Mike Pugh, Rick Ooley, Jack Hampton, Mike Finley, all who have lost loved ones, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board, our county and country and, as always, each other. If you have news, call me at 608-3058, or if you want to rent the community center, call Pat Cates at 688-5125 or 315-8062. Have a blessed week everyone!

Hello to my family and friends. It is a new week, a new day and a blessing to be with you! This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! What did you do this weekend? We had Valentine’s Day on Friday and Presidents’ Day on Monday. For Valentine’s Day, some people often choose to spend quality time with their partner, which can include a romantic dinner at home or at a restaurant, exchanging gifts like flowers or chocolates, going on a special outing like a couples massage or a weekend getaway or simply enjoying a cozy evening together watching a with a movie. It does not matter what you did as long as it made you all happy! I can remember the time when I gave my husband a Payday, and he gave me a Snickers, and we both loved it! It not the quantity; it is the quality! The Pig had a one-day meat sale on Thursday, Feb. 13! There were lots of great deals and door prizes. The city of Henderson would like to say thank you for rolling back the cost of meat with the way the economy is! Who would have thought a dozen eggs would have a $6 starting price? For those who are worrying about the economy, remember what the Word of God tells us in Psalm 37:25-26 – “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed!” Do not worry! Trust in the Lord and not man!
On Saturday, Feb. 15, there was a Black History Program at Chester County Senior Center. The theme this year was “Historically Black Colleges and Universities.” This year, unfortunately, I did not get to attend because I did not feel my best. I know the program was outstanding! To the following ladies – April Hollingsworth, Lucille Wright and Amie Croom – thank you for a great program! Keep up the great work! For those who were off work for Presidents’ Day, I hope you enjoyed it. My household had a wonderful day. I felt much better compared to how I felt on Saturday! Have you ever had a taste for a certain food? My mother, (Ms. Annie) said, “If you have a taste for it, cook it,” so I cooked a big pot of brown beans, rice, short ribs, cornbread and baked cinnamon apples! It was so GOOD! LaWanna took most of it home with her. The city of Henderson welcomes one of the most popular fast-food restaurants here in Henderson, located on Freed-Hardeman University’s campus. Chick-fil-A, thank you for choosing our hometown to share the goodness! I know it will be very successful!
Valorie Griggs is sending out a belated birthday wish to a young lady by the name of Ms. Elma Ross. On Feb. 7, Ms. Ross turned 99 years young. What a blessing! The city of Henderson salutes you, Ms. Ross. Happy 99th birthday! That is an incredible milestone; I hope you have a wonderful day filled with joy and celebration. Valorie also wanted to wish her grandson and Glenda Atkins a happy belated birthday on Feb. 14. We pray the Lord will bless you with many more. Happy Birthday to Darrius “DJ” Johnson, on Feb. 20. He is the ripe old age of 12. Keona Croom celebrates her birthday on Feb. 20 as well. Amie Croom wants you to know she is thinking of you! Happy birthday!  Head Start is accepting applications for children that will be three- or four-years old by Aug. 15, 2025 for the 2025-26 school year. For more information, call 989-5111. On the prayer list this week: Ethel Croom for the healing of her body; Glen Swafford is at home from the hospital! Keep praying for his strength in his body; and Katrina Lipford as she is recovering from her surgery. Remember our children, the teachers, our families, the sick and shut in, our men and women that are serving our country and also the incarcerated. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Text me at 608-6132.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK! LOVE YOU!
