COMMUNITY NEWS - OCTOBER 3, 2024

Posted

Hello to everyone!  For this is a new day, a new week and a new month! Oh, how great it is to be here with you this week because this is the day the Lord has made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it.  Before we get started, let us remember those families in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and here in our very own state. Hurricane Helene came through parts of the states above; she was devastating! Please pray for those families and help them anyway we can.
To Dr. Jerry Woods and family, our condolences go to you; we are praying that the Lord will give the family strength. Remember that you are not alone. Vivian will be missed but never forgotten!
Guess what, parents? Fall break is starting Oct. 11-18 for Chester County. I hope you have a plan for that week so you and your child/children will enjoy the time off from school.  Parents, please let your children know how much you love and appreciate them. They grow up so fast; enjoy them while you can.
When our children were in school, we had a ball during any breaks that we had. It was fun spending time together. Now, all of them are adults, and we still have fun together. To our beloved teachers, please find time to relax. Put your feet up and enjoy that week because you have earned it.
Some of you may know that our daughter LaWanna was diagnosed with a heart disease about three years ago. At her last checkup, the doctor told her she can run and play ball if she would like to. She has been just that and much more! Her heart is strong, and she is doing great! We will be going for a checkup soon, and I know we will receive some wonderful news as well. After the appointment, I will let you know the GOOD NEWS! You know she is a miracle baby! Thank you for all of your prayers! God is a healing God in Jesus Name!
Pastor Appreciation Day is Sunday, Oct. 13. This celebration happens in the month of October, which also happens to be Pastor Appreciation Month. The celebration of this day began with the idea to celebrate the contributions of Priests, Ministers, Reverends, and Pastors. So, on Sunday, do something nice for your Pastor. You have time to let him/her know how much you appreciate them.
The Greater Evangelical Ministry, located at 1609 Airport Road, Selmer, will celebrate their Pastor Apostle Frank Holiday. Sr.’s 27th Anniversary Service at 3 p.m. Oct. 20. Family and friends are invited; please come out. For more information, call 608-6132.
Happy 34th Wedding  Anniversary to Pastor Marles and Sylvia Flowers. They will celebrate on Oct 10. Keep the honey in the moon! We pray that you will have many more years together!  COVID tried to take you out four years ago, Pastor Marles, but the Lord said, “YOU SHALL LIVE AND NOT DIE!” To God be the Glory! Keep on preaching and teaching the Word of God!
Remember that Oct. 7 is the deadline to register for the November Election.
Happy Birthday to Brenda DePriest, Deanna Getting and Kristen Cobb, 10/4; Carolyn Dancy, 10/5; Donna Moody and Jadesen Moody, 10/10; Melissa Hunt, 10/12; and Shanna Foster, 10/14. We pray the Lord will bless you with many more!  If you know them, give them a Happy Birthday shout-out!
On the prayer list this week: Mrs. Ethel Croom, Dr. Jerry Woods family and Tapeka Wilson. Continue to pray for the United States of America and everyone you know!
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can.  If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Call or text me at 608-6132.
Thought for today – remember tears are not weakness: they are proof our hearts are alive and passionate and able to be touched.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. The sky was partly cloudy on Sunday with a light breeze noted, and the temperature was 71 degrees. The month of September is winding down, and we sure had a lot of rain. We were very blessed that the spin off from the hurricane did not come further this way. I imagine most of you know East Tennessee did not fare as well. A hospital in Erwin had to evacuate 50 patients from flooding. The patients were rescued from the roof. What a tragedy and a scary thing for all. Also, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina were hit hard. It will take years to recover and billions of dollars to rebuild. Many lost homes and businesses. An enormous team of ambulances and electric workers were waiting to be able to go in and be able to help restore power. Please continue to pray for all those affected.
No news from around here except that the BBQ Festival was rescheduled due to the rain. I have had bronchitis since last Monday and it has been rough. I think the schools will begin fall break Oct. 11. Columbus Day is Oct. 14. I think Thanksgiving is next and then Christmas, and then we begin another year. I hope everyone is well. Please use hand sanitizer while out and about and remember to social distance. It is better to be safe than sick.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
Happy birthday to Madison Seaton, 10-1; Brianne Matheney, 10-2; and Charlie Butler, 10-5.
Please continue to remember these in prayer – Wesley Bates, Paula Berry, Marie Bishop, Waylon Bishop, Regina Brooks, Georgia Burkeen, J.T. and Jeannette Butler, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Pat and Paul Coleman, Joie Freeman, Jennifer Gateley, Carolyn Goff, Bro. Glen and Judy Harris, Joey Harris, LaDawn Hayes, Danny Hodges, Brenda Hopper, Larry Johnson, Mark Lenow, Doris McKinney, Martha Mainord, Brianne Locke Matheney, Deana Morris, Darryl Newsom, Glenda Parchman, Julia Parchman, James Parrish, Beth Plunk, Trudy Powers, Pam Priddy, Ridge Ray, Todd Rencher, Donald and Doris Rowlett, Mollie Russell, Brenda Seaton, Nona Seaton, Dyke Sells, Cathy Sisson, Jacob Thomas, Kevin Thurman, Lee Trice, Tony Tucker and Cammi Walls. Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
“Burdens Can Be Blessings” by Helen Steiner Rice – “Our Father knows what’s best for us/So why should we complain/We always want the sunshine/But He knows there must be rain/We love the sound of laughter/And the merriment of cheer/But our hearts would lose their tenderness/If we never shed a tear/So whenever we are troubled/And life has lost its song/It’s God testing us with burdens/Just to make our spirit strong!”
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.

Hope to see everyone coming out to support our community for the annual BBQ Festival that was postponed from last weekend due to rain. Let us all pray for good weather.
We appreciate all our members at the center and would love for more of our community to get involved. With more help, we could plan more events for our community. Membership dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining, and they are due for this current year. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
This year will be an election year for the history books. Our local governmental meetings are in need of more community support. If you care about Chester County, please pay attention to what is taking place in our county and come out and show your interest. Everyone should be mindful of what is going on in our Country and care enough to help make a difference. The only way you have a say is to get out and vote in November. I challenge all of Chester County registered voters to vote. Chester County residents need to show what they stand for. I do believe that Christians should definitely speak out by standing up for their beliefs.
Montezuma sends out Happy Birthday wishes to William Atkins on Oct. 2, Betty M. Cooper and Eloise Parker on Oct. 5, Laela Brown on Oct. 6, Oakley Quarles on Oct. 7 and Annie Stewart on Oct 9. Montezuma sends out Happy Anniversary wishes to Rick and Erin Fontana on Oct. 6.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and friends. Please be in prayer for the victims and families affected by Hurricane Helene, our local government, federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and the listed individuals of Dot Smith, Mike Lott, Linda Hopper, Cindy Kilzer, Quinten Johnson, Connie Dunn, Donna Doyle, Norma Sue Kitchen, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Debi Phillips, Donna Kay Newman and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

Hello from Enville! Hello, October! These months are clicking off pretty quickly. It will be Christmas before we know it. I do hope that we have some nice fall weather and temperatures where we do not have to use the air conditioners or heat for a little while. Our hummingbirds are gone, except for one, who has run the others off and is guarding the two feeders I have left up. I guess he does not mind traveling alone!
With all the rain we have been having, we will have to mow the grass again when it dries up; we are so blessed to just get rain. My heart is saddened at the devastation and loss of life from Hurricane Helene. They definitely need our prayers and support. There are several groups from our area that have gone to help, and some are taking donations of items to take at a later date.
The Enville Volunteer Fire Department will have their annual fish fry and cakewalk beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the community center. Fish or chicken strip plates will be available, and dine in is all you can eat. Please come out and enjoy the food and fellowship! Cake donations will be appreciated!
Happy birthday wishes go to Tera O’Neal on Oct. 8. Happy anniversary to Robert and Linda Johnson on Oct. 4. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
Please pray for Robert and Linda Johnson, Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Emily Freeman, Mary Lee Guyon, Agnes and Robert Smith, Mary Lou Avent, Ann Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Kaye Killingsworth, Bonnie Johnson, Mildred Goodwin, Shirley Bishop, Janice Massengill Strickland, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Rick Ooley, Mike Pugh, Mike Finley, Jeff Finley, Glenn Butts, Lee Trice, Justin Godsey, all who have lost loved ones, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board, our county and country and, as always, each other.
If you want to rent the community center, call Pat Cates at 688-5125 or 315-8062, or if you have news or events happening, call me at 608-3058.
Have a blessed week everyone!
