Greetings from Sweetlips.
Hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful weather for the last few days. It may be because I am getting older, but the time seems to be flying. The month of October is nearly gone.
I want to remind those of you that will be voting that we are now back to voting at the Sweetlips Community Center. That is coming up Nov. 5. Get out and make your voice be heard. There is a ramp for those of you that have a problem climbing steps. This is one right that we have that has not been taken from us. The world is such a different place than when I was a child. I sure do miss those more carefree days.
I have been asked several times about our yearly stew. If all goes well, we are still planning to have it in February. More information will be available closer to time.
Cindy Springer and a few ladies are planning a garage sale Nov. 2. If there are others that want to get on a list, let her know. Call 989-7046, and she will send them your way.
Please remember the following people in prayer – Wendell and Donna Murphy, Sarah McEarl, Greg Russell, Robyn Russell, Amber Greer, Neal Kinchen, Grace Moody, all those that just have the crud/allergies, and those of us that just have the aches and pains of old age! Please remember to be on the lookout for little ghosts, goblins and ghouls on Halloween. Hope all of you have a safe and boo-tiful night and a howling good time.
Birthday wishes to Maggie Huckaby, Oct. 24; Bryan Keen and Shallon Lyles, Oct. 27; Emma Barnes, Oct. 28; Dot Anderson, Oct. 29; Lou Williams, Dillon Faulkner and Fallon Ayers, Oct. 31; Robyn Russell, Nov. 1; Keith Price, Nov. 3; and James Bodiford, Steve Birl, Patsey Newsom and Tessa Bishop, Nov. 5.
Anniversary wishes to Benji and Jessica Huckaby, Oct. 21, and Jimmy and Teresa Tedford, Oct. 24.
Hope all of you have a blessed week. Get out, take a ride and enjoy the beautiful colors of the season.
Thought of the week: The secret to contentment is knowing how to enjoy what you have and be able to lose all desire for things beyond your reach.
A first for Silerton – Darby Dean Yuan Hai Claybrook will be the first person with ties to Silerton to be a commercial pilot. Darby was born in Guangzhon Province, China on June 6, 2006. She was adopted by Steven and Camille Claybrook on Feb. 5, 2007. Camille is the daughter of the late John Lambert and Janet Baker Lambert. Steven and Camille make their home in Apex, N.C., and Darby graduated high school in 2024. At a very young age, Darby developed a love of flying and dreamed of becoming a pilot. She is now enrolled in Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Aviation with a concentration in Professional Flight. She aspires to become a commercial pilot. Her dreams are to soar in the clouds. Let us keep her in our prayers as she pursues her goal.
Grady and Carolyn Stack closed out their camping season last week at Pickwick overnight. Grady reported having a good trip.
Four Silerton residents will be celebrating November birthdays – Frank Herndon on Nov. 8, Jamie Fry on Nov. 10, Linda Beshires on Nov. 18 and Carolyn Stack on Nov. 27.
Joseph and Rachel Lambert will be celebrating their third wedding anniversary Oct. 30. Instead of buying gifts this year, they decided to take a cruise to Nassau. Joseph related that they had a wonderful time. It was the first time either had flown or been on a cruise. They flew to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and then to Miami, Fla., to embark. They loved the food and ate several times a day. While snorkeling, they spotted a shark. They also visited Ocean Kay in the Bahamas. They were able to visit many sites, and they enjoyed the military fort, “Queen of Stairs,” that was built in 1793-1794 by 60 slaves. If you see either of them, I think they would enjoy sharing their trip with you.
A 45-minute co-ed chair yoga session will be offered every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Silerton Baptist Church beginning Oct. 31 and will continue as long as there is interest. There is no charge, and no special equipment or attire is required. Call Gail Mayfield at 731-212-2726 if you have any questions.
Jamie and I had a wonderful visit with Ms. Donna Waldrip. It was a pleasure to hear her reminiscences and how the people of Silerton are so intertwined with each other. Donna would like to remind everyone about the December Bake Sale benefiting the Silerton Volunteer Fire Dept. One may order a variety of cakes, cookies and candies. The all-important ordering deadline is Dec. 14. You may submit orders/questions to Donna at 731-658-7889. Pickup is at 11 a.m. Dec. 20 at the fire station. Dec. 21 is a late pick up date and additional sale at the Bolivar Tractor Supply store.
I had the honor and pleasure of attending the whole hog barbecue this past Friday and Saturday at Piney Grove Baptist Church. They are to be commended in keeping such a tradition going. It was very interesting talking to the pit masters, and I learned a lot. The process is similar yet very different from barbecuing briskets in Texas. There was a kaleidoscope of wonderful sides and desserts provided by the ladies. The open pit was built in 1990, and the hog weighed in at 261 pounds. That is almost as big as the squirrels we would barbecue in Texas!
Hello to all from this little corner of the world. The skies were a bright blue on Sunday, and there were no clouds where I am.
Leaves are changing everywhere and fluttering to the ground in our backyard. My favorite is sugar maples, but I love all types and colors. Our birds have taken a short vacation, as their food supply has dwindled to nothing. It will be replenished soon. This weather could spoil us. I am sure our electric bill should be less. People can still get out and fish, play and ride bikes and motorcycles. Others will continue to finish up getting prepared for winter. Thanksgiving is not far away either.
Congratulations to our high school football team on beating Lexington last Friday.
Condolences to those who have lost loved ones.
I hope everyone votes in this presidential election. It is our civic duty to vote. If you love your country, VOTE! Early voting I think is through Oct. 31. Anyone can vote early.
Happy belated birthday to Kase King and Kathy Dyer, 10-20; Laiken White, 10-21; Ty Dyer, 10-22; and J.T. Butler, 10-24.
Happy belated anniversary to Dana and Jamie Berry, 10-23.

I wanted to post a recipe. Hope you enjoy it! Lazy Girl Pecan Bars – you will need one package (16 oz) refrigerated pie crusts (two crusts), one cup light corn syrup, one cup brown sugar packed, 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted), three large eggs, one teaspoon vanilla extract, one and a half cup pecan halves and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees; grease a 9x13 baking pan. Roll out the refrigerated pie crusts and fit them into the bottom of the greased baking pan, pressing down gently to cover the entire bottom. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the corn syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract and salt until smooth. Stir in the pecan halves until evenly coated. Pour filling over the pie crust in the baking pan, spreading evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minute or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars. Servings are 12 bars. ENJOY!
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.

We are fast approaching Halloween, and I hope all you parents have your children’s costumes together and are looking for safe ways for them to Trick-or-Treat.
We appreciate all our members at the center and would love for more of our community to get involved. With more help, we could plan more events for our community. Membership dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining, and they are due for this current year. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
This year will be an election year for the history books. Our local governmental meetings are in need of more community support. If you care about Chester County, please pay attention to what is taking place in our county and come out and show your interest. Everyone should be mindful of what is going on in our country and care enough to help make a difference. The only way you have a say is to get out and vote in November. I challenge all of Chester County registered voters to vote. Chester County residents need to show what they stand for. I do believe that Christians should definitely speak out by standing up for their beliefs.
Montezuma sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Rebecca Morris on Oct. 30 and Billy Cherry on Oct. 31, Judy Cranford and Larry David Patterson on Nov. 1, Renee Thomas on Nov. 2 and Jessica Fuqua on Nov. 7.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and friends. Please be in prayer for the victims and families affected by Hurricane Helene, our local and federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and the listed individuals of Bill Phillips, Mike Lott, Linda Hopper, Cindy Kilzer, Quinten Johnson, Connie Dunn, Donna Doyle, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Jim Phillips, Jan Sharp, Linda Darlene Azevedo and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, until next time, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers!
Hello from Enville! I hope everyone is having a great week. Happy Halloween! I hope the kiddos have attended some of the Trunk or Treats and Fall Festivals around the community already. Due to rain in the forecast for Halloween night, the Sanford Hill Baptist Church will have an indoor Hall of Treats on Oct. 31. Bring your little ghosts and goblins for a safe and dry place to fill their pumpkins with lots of candy. We love seeing all the children in their costumes!
The Chester County Football season is nearing the end. Our last season game is Friday night. It is a bitter sweet game for us. Our grandson Blake is a senior and will play his last regular game. The playoffs will follow the season games; we are so proud of our Chester County Eagles!
We officially return to standard time at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. We will “fall back” one hour, so before you go to bed on Saturday night, be sure to set your clocks; otherwise, you will not be on time for church services. I, for one, do not really like the standard time. It gets dark so early, and the nights seem so long. I will be looking forward to the next time change!
Nov. 5, 2024, is Election Day; if you have not already voted, get to the polls and do your part to make your voices heard.
Happy birthday wishes go to Wayne Pugh on Nov. 2, Glenn Butts on Nov. 5 and Debbie Vinson and Kim Alexander on Nov. 6. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
Please pray for Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Robert and Linda Johnson, Mary Lee Guyon, Mary Lou Avent, Robert Smith, Ann Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Shirley Bishop, Emily Freeman, Pat Cates, Bonnie Johnson, Kaye Killingsworth, Mildred Goodwin, Janice Massengill Strickland, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Jeff Finley, Rick Ooley, Glenn Butts, Mike Finley, Lee Trice, Justin Godsey, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board, our county and country, all who have lost loved ones and, as always, each other.
If you want to rent the community center, call Pat Cates at 688-5125 or 315-8062, or if you have news, call me at 608-3058.
Have a blessed week everyone!
