DAR, Henderson Station Chapter, met March 19

The Daughters of the American Revolution, Henderson Station Chapter, met at 4:30 p.m. March 17 at the Henderson church of Christ for their quarterly meeting. Randi Baxter, Christine Carroll, Maxine Carroll, Jodi Christiansen, Vickie Zamata, Dr. Mary Ann Guinn, Alice Holtin and Patsy Weatherington were in attendance.
Randi Baxter, Maxine Carroll, Jodi Christiansen, Alice Holtin and Vickie Zamata were recognized as new members and welcomed to the chapter.
The meeting was called to order by Regent Weatherington, prayer was led by Randi Baxter and patriotic exercises were led by Dr. Mary Ann Guinn. The National Defense Message and program was given by Mrs. Weatherington, titled, “Purple Up.” This is an organization pertaining to youth of military parents. If you mix: Air Force – Navy, Space Force and Coast Guard – Blue, Army – green and Marine – red, you will get Purple. As Jodi and Randi were “Military Youth,” they know all about “Youth in the Military.”
Alice Holtin presented the first in a series of “Tidbits on Women in the Revolutionary War,” featuring Lillian (Lilly) Mcllhaney Bowen. Lillian furnished supplies and fed and clothed Colonial Troops of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. The DAR states she loaned money in 1777. She was described as, “A beautiful Scotch-Irish girl of seventeen, who came from Ireland with her mother and stepfather to Pennsylvania. She had a strong discriminating mind.”
The following presentations were given: Conservation Tip – Christine Carroll, Constitution Minute – Jodi Christiansen, Flag Minute – Vicki Zamata and Indian Minute – Maxine Carroll.
Following the business session, the meeting adjourned. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be May 19.
