Burlon Eugene Dyer, 77, of Henderson passed away May 1, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Shackelford Funeral Directors - East Main Chapel with Robert Dodrell officiating. Burial will follow at New Mifflin Cemetery with Larry Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Friday evening, May 9, and Saturday morning until service time.
He was born Nov. 14, 1947, at Mifflin, the son of the late Edwin Ray and Evelyn Maxine Burress Dyer. He was raised in Mifflin and went to Chester County Schools and graduated from Chester County High School in 1967. He was drafted in 1968 and served in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, having served in Company C 2/47th Infantry as a SSG (T), receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/Device, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, and the Purple Heart.
He was an avid quarter horse enthusiast, having won many accolades and medals with his quarter horses. He won everything in this part of the country as far as quarter horses. He enjoyed fishing and liked to garden. He was a member of the Mifflin Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Dylan Eugene (Jordan) Dyer of Henderson; three grandchildren, Hadley Jane Dyer, Adeline Reese Dyer and Hays Armour Dyer; one nephew, Ty (Nicky) Dyer; two brothers, Charles (Kathy) Dyer and Micky R. Dyer of Mifflin; and a sister Martha Ann (Ray) Dyer Pusser of Henderson.
